Role Purpose:

Commodity Buyer is responsible for developing and delivering commercial strategies for their commodity areas, identifying and delivering savings, and adding value through excellent supplier management, innovative ideas and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities: 

  • Maximize corporate profits by minimizing costs through vendor selection, analysis and evaluation of quotations, quality delivery and reputation
  • Active in resolution to WFC plant/supplier problems i.e. quality, scheduling, and logistics issues
  • Member of APQP Team representing Purchasing for assigned Commodities
  • Select and source Components assist in logistics, packaging, and IT
  • Compile reports for Department Manager/Director/Vice President
  • Investigate, propose and implement cost savings
  • Conduct supplier partnerships to build relationships, review and control the suppliers current and potential business with WFC
  • Assist in planning ongoing departmental corporate strategies
  • Coordinate delivery of new or resourced components to meet production dates
  • Advise Plant Materials on supplier information and pricing for components, sampling and service orders
  • Work with SQA for ongoing source development

Qualifications:  

  • Post-Secondary Diploma/Degree with three years progressive experience in a manufacturing environment in related activities such as purchasing, logistics or materials
  • Enrolled in or completion of PMAC's CPP Designation an asset
  • Experience buying commodities such as, Plastic, Steel, Fiberglass, Flexible Foam, Ind
  • Computer skills including Windows, Microsoft Office and Various Internet Report Applications
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Purchasing, Quality Procedures, and Practices
  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, 2D drawings and CAD
  • Past project experience as a team member or leader a definite asset
