Job Description

Agilus is hiring a Health & Safety Coordinator on behalf of our client in Mississauga.  This person will be responsible to ensure all locations are meeting the elements or COR H&S Program and develop policies to promote occupational health and safety (OSH) awareness. Safety coordinators should be well-versed in all Occupational Health and Safety Act OHSA. Your work will be focused on prevention, so you need to be diligent and analytical. You will possess a keen eye for detail and a sensitivity for potential dangers.


  • Develop and review health & safety rules, policies and procedures in accordance with site, company and government regulations and legislation
  • Conduct inspections to ensure health & safety requirements and governmental legislation being followed at all times
  • Ensure workers are up-to-date in training (e.g. First Aid / CPR “A” / AED, Working at Heights, AODA, H&S Awareness, WHMIS and Workplace Violence & Harassment)
  • Research, plan, organize and conduct training programs.
  • Conduct health & safety audits, risk assessments, reviews and inspections
  • Maintain and report on safety and health records and statistics as set by H&S Program elements
  • Monitor machine or equipment changes, ensuring health & safety precautions being taken into account
  • Identify potentially hazardous situations and take proactive measures to correct them effectively
  • Work with management to design programs / strategies that protect employees from workplace hazards
  • Periodically, act as a team leader for task forces & team (eg. leading a number of supervisors on an audit)
  • Review internal and external health and safety reports to determine areas which need improvement; implement measures to minimize occurrence of near misses, incidents, and accidents
  • Conduct investigations, including complaints, near misses, serious harm incidents and accidents; write reports that document findings
  • Manage non-compliance violations in a timely manor
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments in offices and on sites
  • Partner with managers, workers, joint health and safety committee members, union representatives and government inspectors to optimize the safety program
  • Monitor the plant and field safety to meet the company’s COR H&S Program
  • Outlining safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards.
  • Maintain and organize records of inspections, findings and produce reports that suggest improvements.
  • Participate and assist in the investigation of incidents to determine cause and establish changes to ensure possible reoccurrence
  • When required ensure records of incidents and accidents are forwarded to head office and complete Form 7 when necessary for WSIB 27. Produce statistics for managers and JHSC semi-annually for incidents and accidents
  • Attend Health & Safety meeting and seminars and read professional journals
  • Produce, post, distribute management reports, newsletters, bulletins and any legislative changes to respective workers


  • Minimum 2-year diploma or certificate in occupational health and safety
  • A certificate for safety from a recognized academic institution.
  • Min. 3 - 5 years’ experience in a Health & Safety role
  • Exposure and experience within the construction industry with a keen understanding of Health & Safety methodology.
  • Construction in commercial and residential product knowledge and or other building knowledge would be an asset.
  • Able to be diplomatic and clear headed when dealing with high pressure situations
  • Strong IT, software and hardware skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills in English.
