SUMMARY: Leader for environmental, health, safety and security (EHS&S) programs, policies and initiatives in supporting our food processing facilities, DC and office areas. Evaluates programs and policies to minimize risks associated with EHS&S issues and ensures compliance with corporate and legal standards. Influences and helps establish best practices and building a culture of health and safety.

SCOPE: The EHS&S Manager is responsible to lead EHS&S for 1 manufacturing facility with approximately 250 - 300 employees working across multiple shifts in Delta, BC.


* Implements/maintains consistent EHS&S management systems, including control designs, methods, procedures (Standard Operating Procedures/Work Instructions/Standard Work) and programs. Administers, advises and implements/updates to these systems, based on applicable legal and voluntary codes, best practices and/or conformance standards. Measures, audits and evaluates the effectiveness of EHS&S management systems and programs using Corporate and other tools and programs. This includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:

  • Occupational safety;
  • Ergonomics/workstation design;
  • Workplace injury & illness (Worker's Compensation) claim / medical management;
  • Environmental regulatory compliance;
  • Employee training;
  • Industrial hygiene;
  • Fire prevention / protection;
  • Fleet safety;
  • Facility and asset security;
  • Establish site strategies, systems and controls to assure company objectives and compliance in the areas of environmental health and safety.
  • Establish and report site key EHS performance metrics to ensure scorecard objectives are met.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of 3 year EHS improvement plans.
  • Acts as liaison between assigned facility and the Corporate EHS&S Department in the execution of corporate EHS&S initiatives.
  • Focuses EHS&S efforts towards common goals and processes to achieve world-class status.
  • Develop and maintain facility wide EHS programs including proactive incident prevention, business continuity plan, hazardous chemical management and employee training.
  • Helps drive employee engagement to create and foster a proactive, empowered safety culture.
  • Manages internal and external relationships (e.g., government agency, consultants, insurers, brokerage, legal) as necessary.
  • Manage incident reporting process including completion of investigations/RCA's, implementation of corrective actions, and communication to key stakeholders.
  • Along with the Human Resources Team, actively manage Workers' Compensation cases, working closely with all appropriate parties.
  • Maintain industry, professional and technical knowledge by networking, attending industry events, and reviewing professional publications.
  • Completes other duties and tasks as assigned.


  • Ability to identify, assess and lead / execute multiple continuous improvement projects simultaneously - must be able to work independently and demonstrate results (including Worker's Compensation claim reduction)
  • Working knowledge of EHS&S practices, and understanding of federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting manufacturing practices and activities.
  • Knowledge of methods, accepted practices, considerations and regulatory requirements associated with safety and protection of workers, environment and sites.
  • Knowledge of materials used in the manufacturing process and of safe practices for physical management of raw materials/hazardous materials and finished goods.
  • Knowledge of day-to-day and strategic issues, operational requirements and management of a manufacturing facility.
  • Knowledge of technologies and applications used in manufacturing products and in the optimization of manufacturing processes.
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment.
  • Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies.
  • Ability to work in all possible environmental conditions including office, manufacturing, labs, warehouse and travel (e.g., air, car, train, etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.


  • 5+ years' experience in responsibility for a medium to large manufacturing facility or equivalent knowledge/exposure. Food plant processing experience a plus, although not required.
  • BA/BS degree in related field (e.g., engineering, environmental science, occupational safety, industrial engineering) required.
  • Masters degree in related field is a plus.
  • Experience in managing complex projects, workers' compensation claims and/or occupational nurse a plus.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Industry certifications are a plus, but not required.

    COMPUTER SKILLS: Must be proficient in MS Office. Experience with Intelex and/or Alchemy is helpful.

    TRAVEL: Minimal travel requirements.
