Job Description

General Accountability

Responsible for ensuring that all activities related to plant operations & plant maintenance are completed in a safe and cost effective manner and in compliance with Government regulations, company policy, customer needs, and the statutory requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Mine and Environmental Regulations.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the organization and direction of all plant activities that establishes high levels of production in a cost effective, safe and environmental manner.
  • Provides direction in the development and implementation of budgets and production plans to ensure safe and efficient production in conjunction with long-range and budget objectives.
  • Establishes a positive employee and labour relations climate by conducting and participating in activities that contribute to an effective working relationship with all employees both non-union and union if applicable.
  • Promotes teamwork at all levels of the operation and, through the communication, monitoring and revision of performance standards, ensures crew compliance to performance standards and legislation.
  • Establish a high level of satisfaction for both internal and external customers by achieving safety, production, quality and cost standards. Displays a cooperative attitude in all customer matters.
  • Is committed to personal continuous development and able to assume the duties and responsibilities of other managerial and supervisory personnel as required.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities, as required, in response to changing circumstances and the physical and economic environment of the Mine and the Company.



Technical Requirements

  • Ideally the incumbent will have a B.Sc. in Engineering with 8 to 10 years and/or plant experience. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Supervisory skills and experience in planning and scheduling
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong conflict management skills
  • Ability to develop strong trusting relationships in order to gain support and achieve results
