Job Description

Our client, a midstream company is actively seeking a Senior Manager of Engineering to oversee the Construction and Project Management of capital projects within their Gas Services division. Prior Alberta based owner or mid stream experience is a must. The Gas Services operations currently provide sweet and sour gas gathering, compression, condensate stabilization, and both shallow cut and deep cut processing services and their current assets are located throughout the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin with 5 districts in Canada and potentially will include assets in the United States.

This Senior Manager, Engineering is responsible for an annual capital expenditure portfolio of $300-500 million, will oversee multiple projects simultaneously, work to ensure coordination with other projects within other business units, and be an integral contributor to business development opportunities.

The primary responsibilities, deliverables and accountabilities include, and not limited to:

Business Acumen and Strategy:

  • Leading the development, design, estimating, project planning and execution of projects ensuring compliance with Project Delivery and Governance Lifecycle, project management office processes, controls and approvals;
  • Demonstrating acumen and expertise through understanding of commercial arrangements associated with new capital projects and capital execution within the commercial framework;
  • Overseeing and approving the development of comprehensive engineering design and execution plans for gas processing facilities;
  • Shaping strategy and vision for the engineering organization and ensuring alignment to corporate and business unit directives;
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of organizational strategy;
  • Identifying critical issues that must be addressed in order to realize that vision and defines short, medium and long-term corporate goals and objectives;
  • Providing safety leadership that is incorporated into all aspects of engineering projects, and ensures the contractors and suppliers remain compliant;
  • Leading the development of and takes ownership of the annual capital expenditure budget in addition to the project(s) budget;
  • Knowledge of industry trends, activity levels and capacity. Ability to benchmark BU projects to industry and consistently deliver results.



  • Leading a team of high-performing individuals to successfully complete corporate objectives; providing them with mentorship, leading by example, and imparting business acumen and strategic business decisions;
  • Providing leadership and development to the Business Unit Engineering team to ensure that the functions receive effective guidance, coordination and leadership. A key deliverable is to ensure team members have development plans for continuity, succession and engagement as well as supporting our clients diversity plans;
  • Guiding continuous improvement and effectively leading teams through change while creating an engaged and adaptive culture;
  • Responsibility for review and approvals of project proposals, preparation for investment committee review and Board proposals for major initiatives;
  • Ensuring that engineering and project management teams are adequately staffed with a commitment to internal systems and controls which promote an organizational culture ensuring the safe, reliable, compliant and cost-effective operation of all assets;
  • Taking an active role in safety leadership, planning and implementing new policies and procedures to raise safety standards across facilities;



  • Candidates will possess a P.Eng. designation;
  • Candidates will have 15+ years of experience in engineering and construction with a focus on shallow and deep cut gas processing, gas gathering, stabilization, sour operations;
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in leading large teams (50+ personnel) and managing third party vendors including Engineering and Construction services providers;
  • Facilities design and installation associated with reservoir exploration and development experience will considered an asset.
  • Must be highly analytical, possess strong business and financial acumen and have excellent communication skills, particularly as it relates to departmental interdependencies and collaborating with peers, identifying and solving issues and developing and maintaining strong internal and external relationships;
  • Working knowledge of North American midstream and marketing infrastructure operations and construction;
  • Overall knowledge of the oil and gas industry value chain – source, supply chain, and impact on customers, shareholders and stakeholders;
  • Experience in managing emergency response situations and evaluations in post-incident reviews;
  • Ability to travel occasionally (including, internationally).
