Position: Ward Aide/Unit Clerk

Department: Surgical Program - PACU

Status: Temporary Part-time for approx. one year  (must provide availability up to 0.5 FTE)

Hours: Monday to Friday - 8 hour days, subject to change based on operational requirements

Site: Oakville

This is what you'll be doing:

As a Ward Aide:

Assisting nurses with patient care. Porter patients on beds/stretchers , to inpatient units, etc. General tidying of the department eg. Cleaning stretchers. Monitoring supply levels and ordering and stocking supplies as necessary. Equipment retrieval from throughout the hospital. Other duties as required.

As a Unit Clerk:

Receptionist and clerical functions including admitting and discharge processes, answering phones, directing patients and family members. Co-ordinating and facilitating the clerical needs of PACU unit. Will complete requisitions and other documentation such as data retrieval of old charts for patient admissions. Additional: will assist with scheduling, daily staffing requirements, participates in patient care in areas.

This is what you'll need to do it:

  • Minimum grade 12 education required
  • Must have previous ward aide or related health care experience
  • Medical terminology required.
  • Typing speed of 30 WPM required
  • Accurate computer data entry skills as well as Meditech and Medicus.
  • Must have experience and be familiar with MS Word, Outlook email and Power Point.
  • Experience with medical supplies (cleaning/stocking) required
  • Must be able to diplomatically respond to customer requests in a demanding work environment
  • Must be able to respond appropriately to emergency situations
  • Repetitive standing & walking, frequently pushing patients on stretchers, lifting boxes of IV solutions weighing approximately 30 lbs., bending to clean stretchers
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to prioritize workload and function independently in a busy and stressful environment.
  • Demonstrate public relations skills and the ability to diplomatically respond to physician, staff, and family inquiries in a demanding work environment.
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record.

Salary: $19.08/hr - $23.82/hr
