Position: Unit Clerk

Department:  Admitting and Emergency Registration

Status: Permanent Part Time (Must provide availability up to 0.5 FTE)

Hours:  Monday to Sunday, all shifts, 8 and 12 hour shifts (subject to change based on operational requirements)

This is what you'll be doing:

Registers patients using MEDITECH software and validates healthcare coverage. Acquires required information and payment method for uninsured patients and accurately enters all required data. Creates and closes treatment records. Answers telephone. Deals with inquiries from the public, family and hospital staff. Completes various clerical tasks/audits as required. Registers patients following established protocols and collaboration with nursing unit staff regarding bed allocation. Works with clinical staff to reassign beds as necessitated through preferred accommodations. Manages bill payment amounts and receipts for patients. Other related duties as required.

  • Grade 12 Diploma required
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working in a similar capacity in a health care environment required
  • Medical Office Administration diploma from a recognized college preferred
  • Medical Terminology certificate is mandatory.
  • Advanced keyboarding (min. 30 words per minute), spelling and accurate data entry skills are required
  • Must have experience with computer peripherals such as printers, scanners, magnetic card swipe devices, wireless payment devices and network / wireless phone systems
  • Must have experience with patient information databases such as MEDITECH, MedHost Emergency Department Information System, MOHLTC Drug Profile database
  • Minimum of 30 wpm typing speed required
  • Must have experience using Microsoft Office applications including Outlook and Word and Excel
  • Able to work with minimal supervision and to prioritize work
  • Ability to handle a complexity of tasks simultaneously
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English fluently Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and the ability to diplomatically respond to physicians, staff, general public and family member inquiries in a demanding work environment
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position which involves frequent sitting, standing, walking and reaching, pushing and pulling of a variety of wheeled equipment
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record required

Salary: $19.08 to $23.82 per hour
