Design Group Staffing Oakville is currently recruiting for a Senior Distribution Engineer for our client in the power and utilities industry located in Fergus, Ontario.

Responsibilities:

  • Examine aerial projects’ functional requirements, establish design concept and parameters, and develop/confirm survey, CAD and Engineering (eng) project scoping.
  • Support survey tech field exercises with prompt response to scoping questions.
  • Review existing utility and municipal information in combination with digital survey and field data collection (pole profiles and photos) to confirm initial design concept and parameters, and to course correct if required.
  • Review and interpret client and CSA design standards for application in project design and facilitate this knowledge transfer to CAD and eng resources active on the project.
  • Support CAD techs in preliminary design drawing development with prompt response to scoping and preliminary design questions.
  • Lead eng techs in detailed aerial engineering to minimum utility or CSA design standards.
  • Perform stamping engineer duties, including final review and validation of design drawings and documents for stamping and issue to client.
  • Review and stamp underground powerline designs including URD and street light.
  • Prepare material estimates and technical procurement specifications.
  • Prepare project estimates and track resource performance metrics.
  • Train and mentor the new and junior engineering resources, complete quality control checks on their work, and provide quality feedback conducive to their development.
  • Support Program/Project Managers in providing technical response to client and regulating authority questions.
  • Ensure PEO Code of Conduct and engineering principles are upheld within the business unit.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, EITs, technologists, and technicians, and support them in their efforts for professional accreditation.
  • Assess and provide feedback the junior engineers, technologists, and technicians’ progress, and assist in identifying appropriate training opportunities to enhance technical and professional development.
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree or equivalent in either electrical or structural engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario.
  • Minimum 10 years of aerial pole line engineering design experience 44kV and below.
  • Thorough understanding and demonstrated interpretation and application of CSA C22.3 No.1 Overhead Systems, CSA C22.3 No.7 Underground Systems and Ontario Regulation 22/04.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a high-performance environment, deal with customers in a professional manner, and willingness to travel primarily within Ontario as required for utility projects.
  • Experience in SPIDACalc preferred, experience in PLS-Pole/CADD and Quick Pole also an asset.
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office applications including MS Project required.
  • Intermediate user of AutoCAD preferred.
  • Experience in street light design software AGi32 is an asset.
  • Experience in power systems modelling with Cyme and or ETAP an asset.
  • Experience in smart grid design and smart switch integration an asset.
