Mortgage Broker Representative - 3 Month Contract
Job Description

Mortgage Broker Services (MBS) is part of Meridian’s Risk Management function at the Toronto Corporate Office.  The department is accountable for providing adjudication and administration for broker originated mortgage applications.  As an MBS Representative, you will be responsible to provide technical and administrative support through the day-to-day administration of mortgage and line of credit applications including inputting of mortgage applications into our internal systems, preparing applications for instructions to solicitors and our Branch network, documentation/fulfillment support with the review and sign off of required supporting documentation, as well as providing underwriting support for standard deals.

Key Responsibilities

Provide administrative support to the Broker Unit Underwriters by:

  • Collecting, verifying and as required, forwarding for further review all supporting documentation for approved credit files
  • Preparing files in the internal system including inputting applications into our Lending Process Excellence (LPE) and preparing the file for solicitor and branch instructions.
  • Liaising with Operations Processing as needed for the closing of broker mortgages.
  • Handling of Broker, Operations Processing and Branch inquiries with respect to approved deals, resolving of issues or referring as required.
  • Interact with mortgage brokers for the collection of all required documents to satisfy mortgage commitment conditions and respond to all inquiries within established turnaround times.
  • Monthly reporting as required and weekly submission of broker commissions

Provide underwriting support to the Mortgage Broker Services team by:

  • Underwriting of standard deals as needed.
  • Handle Broker change requests and re-adjudication of files as needed.
  • Remain informed of changes to internal lending policies, lending practices within the market place and any/all changes to the lending practices of our private and government High Ratio insurers.
  • Remain informed of industry trends with respect to misrepresentation and apply thorough due diligence to the credit files and supporting documentation

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong service-oriented individual demonstrating tact and professionalism.
  • Must have well developed organizational and interpersonal skills, with ability to adapt to a changing environment.
  • Be able to calculate income based on information provided by the Broker.
  • Be able to investigate and resolve broker concerns as they are presented.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced team environment, under tight timelines.
  • Ability to deal with conflict
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Positive team player

Education, Designation, Training and Experience

  • Ability to communicate with Underwriters, Mortgage Operations Reps, Brokers, & Solicitors
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent work experience in a financial services sales environment,
  • Strong experience of mortgage lending policies and documentation requirements
  • Strong computer literacy.
  • Experience in application processing
