Employee Type - Full-Time EmployeeExperience - Not SpecifiedIndustries - Management

Our CEO & Founder Ron Glozman was only trying to use his machine learning skillset to cut class and still get top grades. He was fed up with reading textbooks cover to cover and knew there had to be a better approach to studying (so he could maximize his time doing karaoke!). It was then he decided to use his machine learning skills to develop a text summarization and redaction app that would teach computers how to read. And although Ron didn’t know it at the time, his app laid the foundation for what is now Chisel AI, an innovator in machine learning solutions for the insurance industry.

Since then, Chisel AI has evolved to be the machine learning leader in the insurance space with software that reads insurance forms in milliseconds and extracts key policy information for some of the world’s largest companies. At Chisel AI, we make it possible for our customers to process data 400 times faster than before; allowing them to focus on nuanced and interesting work that drives real value for their customers.

The Opportunity

You’re a strong technology leader who passionately believes that developing people is key to successfully scaling a company and delivering great software. Reporting to our CTO, you will lead, coach, and grow a team of developers – together, you will build and refine our data extraction capabilities. As our next Manager, Software Development, you will manage a team of 3+ developers, ranging in skill level, and will provide them with the opportunity to learn and develop as professionals. Your contributions and decisions here will have a huge impact on the speed at which we scale, the quality of our talent and will determine the milestones we achieve as a team.

Our Tech Stack

Is what you’d expect from a modern, machine learning-powered solution – We deploy on AWS, and we build in Python and React. But that’s only part of the story. Help us make the choices that shape the technology environment and tools here.

Our new Manager, Software Development will:

  • Lead. You will hire, train, mentor, and support a team of software developers. You will grow your team personally and professionally; helping them overcome challenges and will advocate for their needs internally.
  • Build. You will support your team in delivering high-quality technical work. You will constantly look for ways to improve the developer experience and will deliver impactful customer solutions and platform capabilities. You will assess challenges at a systems-level and will help your team to apply modular software design principles.
  • Learn. You will apply deep computer science concepts daily and will work with our Machine Learning team and CTO to better understand and integrate our AI technology with our data extraction capabilities.
  • Collaborate. You will work closely with the entire team to build scalable systems and solve problems using machine learning. You will voice your opinion, make meaningful contributions to our overall technical strategy as well as to the growth of your team members.

You are our next great Manager, Software Development if:

  • You are passionate about developing young technologists into their future selves and bring a track record for doing so.
  • You want to hire and build a great technology practice.
  • You are excited to own how we build software.
  • You have experience with service-oriented architecture, cloud technology, SaaS solutions, and leading and growing developers.
  • You have a strong understanding of modular software design and have built high quality, scalable software. You enjoy working on and improving complex algorithms.
  • You’re an avid problem solver who constantly identifies areas for improvement and continuously iterates. You think algorithmically and want to define how the work of the Data Extraction team fits into our big-picture vision.
  • You’re quick to adapt when priorities shift and take and give feedback well. You are comfortable with ambiguity and excited to figure it out.

So what do you need to know about Chisel AI?

We are technology enthusiasts and experts pushing the limits on how AI will shape the future of insurance. Having successfully raised one of the largest seed rounds in Canadian history and with partners like Venrock, a leading Silicon Valley venture firm, by our side very little stands in the way of our success.

We’ve been recognized by several of the top accelerators in Canada including Creative Destruction Labs and the DMZ and were crowned the winner of the ACORD Global InsurTech Innovation Challenge in 2018. All of which just marked the start of our momentum as in 2019, we won gold at the Zurich Innovation World Championship and made the CIX Top 20 Early Companies list celebrating the most innovative technology companies in Canada.

Why join Chisel AI?
