Our part catalog is vast and is shipped all across the Globe.

Job Introduction

As a Material Handler at Maple, you are responsible for the movement of both work-in progress (WIP) and finished good (FG) materials throughout various production areas. You will utilize the unique capabilities of different classes of mobile equipment to best enact plans designed to optimize material flow and keep production running smoothly. Our material handlers are critical to ensure product is staged on time and in the correct amounts.Material Handlers at Maple do not spend every shift driving a sit-down counterbalance forklift! It is important to understand that a variety of material handling vehicles are used to enact this function in a lean environment, including narrow aisle reach, tugger or ride-on walkie, counterbalance and side-loading trucks with pivoting forks. Additionally, there is a considerable amount of physical labour and repetitive lifting involved.

Major Responsibilities

Responsible for the coordinated movement of containers to and from locations within the plant (trucks, machines, outside storage areas), as well as ensuring that loads are balanced and secure. Specific load types will include the following:

  • Totes, bins and various dunnage containing both WIP and FG material.
  • Scrap required to be moved from assembly equipment on the shop floor.
  • All cardboard movement to and from machines.

Drivers will be trained on and required to operate the following equipment to complete the tasks noted above:

  • Sit-down counterbalance forklifts with capacities up to and above 5,000 lbs.
  • Narrow-aisle reach as required.
  • Tugger, used to distribute smaller dunnage.
  • Side-loader or turret truck used to navigate and manipulate material in our racking systems.

Material Handlers are also required to support all Kanban/material flow system requirements. Completion of all required paperwork including pre-shift equipment inspection forms and all related safety documentation is also the responsibility of the position.

*Please note that this is not a forklift-only role and will require flexibility in the use of different machines, as well as a degree of physical strength and stamina to perform any manual lifting and distribution of product weighing up to no greater than 30 lbs per unit.

Knowledge and Education

  • High school or GED is required.
  • Working and proven knowledge of the English language as demonstrated through both oral and written skills.

Work Experience

  • Must have a minimum of 3-5 years working experience in a fast-paced material handling environment, with a history of formal training and retraining on the applicable lift equipment. Those with automotive experience will be given first consideration over those without it.
  • Background in manufacturing with experience in supporting quality and safety.

Skills and Competencies

  • Must successfully complete a third party forklift training program offered onsite.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the essential duties of the job including manual lifting.

Work Environment

Our facility involves tight corners, high level racking and stacked dunnage throughout a busy environment shared by pedestrians. Candidates joining us for interview will be given an opportunity to have a look at the plant environment during practical testing.

For most material handling functions, there will be limited onus to travel outdoors to secure bins and put material away.

Additional Information

Only successful applicants will be contacted to discuss next steps. Thank you for your interest in this position at Maple Stamping.
