Supporting Finance, Treasury and Taxation you will be responsible for the creation, maintenance and management of the current state of architecture in this area. Your work is varied and includes strategic formation, mentoring a team of smart, capable Solution Architects and running the day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities :


Strategy, Vision and Leadership:

  • Creates a visionary architecture blueprint/roadmap and organizational strategy to align Business and IT; leads and facilitates the design and implementation of technical solutions and processes related to technology architecture.
  • Works with executives from various groups to provide architectural recommendations & guidance as well as executive-level presentations at the enterprise level.
  • Providing architectural direction and communicating architectural decisions, plans, goals and strategies.
  • Delivers architectural initiatives that drive revenue and improve efficiency to align with business strategy.
  • Partners with broader stakeholders in technology and business in defining architecture possibilities and future.
  • Identifies risks or issues with technology solution & design which may impact realization of project benefits and provides guidance and support to stakeholders in making good decisions to pro-actively resolve or mitigate potential risks/delays to the project
  • Identifies and researches relevant technologies, performs Proof of Concepts / Prototypes, and recommends applications of such technologies to future product architectures.
  • Analyzes and designs viable solutions to high complexity business problems according to user specifications.
  • Define and implement architecture governance model of all technology initiatives.
  • Ensures sound and robust architecture and provide sufficient guidance for the successful implementation of solutions to mitigate any negative impact on Technology and Enterprise budget. 

Team Development and Leadership

  • Mentor and develop the team using a supportive and collaborative approach.
  • Provide leadership to the team including structuring the team, holding regular one on one meetings, building development plans, providing regular feedback on performance.

Day to Day Operations

  • Works with Business and development teams in recommending process or system design and enhancement
  • Participates in the system specification review process to ensure system requirements can be translated into valid software architecture
  • Proactively identifies and implements strategies to improve reliability, leveraging automation wherever possible.
  • Leverages metrics and analytics to gain insight for planning, design and management to facilitate the identification of improvement opportunities.
  • Designs and governance implementation of end-to-end integrated solutions.
  • Creates and maintains current state of architecture in his/her area which includes: Applications, Data, Technologies, Processes and Users.
  • Provides project governance for initiatives, and interacts and collaborates with team members and other group within Finance technology team when appropriate, to define accountabilities, communicate the status of work item, and discuss barriers to the delivery of work
  • Participates in Architecture Review Meetings/Boards to ensure that the organization and architecture align with the business model of the enterprise
  • Identifies opportunities to strengthen the capability at BMO, such as: sharing architectural expertise to promote technical development, mentoring employees, building communities of practice and networks across technology.
  • Coaches other Solution Architects and is widely recognized and sought out as a mentor from a technology perspective


  • Generally 10-15 years of work experience in IT or business environment and/or BS/BA or MBA/MS in computer science, engineering, information systems, math or business
  • 3-5 years of people management experiences managing technical teams of 5-10 people
  • Expert knowledge of computer or network systems hardware and software theory, practice, concepts and technology relevant to organizational vision.
  • Sufficient finance knowledge to assess impact of applied technology on customer’s business processes.
  • Proven experience in architecting and designing mission critical systems
  • Demonstrates expert knowledge of design and analysis methodology and application development processes.
  • Possesses a deep understanding and problem solving ability of Information Technology of various scale, degree and dimension of complexity
  • Prior experience with digital transformation of legacy applications
  • Proficient in the techniques that go into producing designs of complex systems, including requirements discovery and analysis, formulation of solution context, identification of solution alternatives and their assessment, technology selection, and design configuration .
