Our client, a leader in the FinTech space, is looking for a CFO to join their executive team in Toronto. Reporting to the CEO, the CFO will lead the global finance function both in terms of strategy and hands-on execution. This is a senior executive role for someone who wants to influence and optimize financial processes at scale; an opportunity to spearhead growth, influence company direction and build tight-knit relationships with current and potential equity partners.

What you will focus on:

  • Leadership 
    • As a key business partner, you will collaborate with the executive team, acting as the organization’s financial subject matter expert
    • Build and nurture relationships with investors, equity partners, Board of Directors and research analysts
    • Spearhead the Accounting, Finance Operations and Financial Planning and Analysis functions on a global scale
    • Leverage industry connections to raise capital; bringing on new equity partners to accelerate growth
    • Coach, mentor and motivate the Finance team 
    • Be an active participant in the Audit, Strategic Leadership, Sales & Operations Planning and Compensation Committees; managing the Disclosure Committee
  • Accounting
    • Lead accounting operations and financial systems; overseeing cash management
    • Prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP framework, revenue recognition for commercial products under ASC 606 and cost accounting principles
    • Design, monitor and continuously improve financial information systems
    • Generate and share annual, quarterly and monthly financial statements
    • Perform corporate tax reporting and prepare tax returns
    • Manage annual audit, internal controls and SOX compliance 
  • Financial operations
    • Lead fundraising efforts including equity partner relationship management and fundraising due diligence
    • Support the development financial models
    • Manage multiple policies, including investment, expense reimbursement, travel and entertainment as well as approval and signature authorization
    • Partner with the CEO and external cash managers to govern company investments; ensuring compliance
    • Oversee A/P, A/R and billing; managing payroll, stock administration and related activities
    • Ensure insurance policies cover the current and forecasted growth of the organization
  • Financial planning & analysis
    • Develop and monitor sell-side analyst financial models; accurately responding to all analyst and investor financial questions
    • Execute annual business planning process, including scenario planning, long-range plans and budgets
    • Perform detailed, effective and timely analyses of budgets and long-range forecasts
    • Create business models for anticipated transactions and financings

What you bring:

  • The knowledge. You hold a bachelor’s degree and ideally, have your CPA license or MBA. 
  • Experience. You have 15+ years of progressive finance experience in the technology industry, preferably in a FinTech or SaaS environment. You’ve been a crucial part of scaling companies to the 100 million mark and have helped raised funding in the past. At a minimum, you have 7 years of experience in leadership and people management roles. 
  • Drive. You have the grit needed to excel in a fast-paced, highly visible and dynamic environment. A pitch-in-whenever-needed type of leader, you aren’t afraid to be hands-on and get into the weeds. 
  • People skills. An engaging communicator, you build long-lasting business relationships with investors and equity partners easily. A natural leader, you effectively communicate the big-picture vision and receive buy-in quickly from teams organization-wide. A strong collaborator, you enjoy liaising with different departments, developing teams and building a great company culture. 
  • Analytical mindset. An avid problem-solver, you use your strong critical thinking skills to develop solutions that work long term. You’re always evaluating risks and looking for ways to continuously improve processes. 
  • Technical expertise. You’re an Excel super with excellent knowledge of ERP systems. As someone who’s tech-savvy, you enjoy learning new technologies and pick up new tools easily. 
  • The entrepreneurial approach. You are a polished communicator and persuasive presenter. You are guided by your intellect, sense of ethics, and sound judgment that engender credibility and trust. You plan for the long game and act in the moment when needed.
