Manufacturing Engineering Technologist (Structural)
Job Description

Coordination with the structural engineer to complete structural engineering drawings and procedures to support production equipment needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process engineering releases to ensure a cost effective, timely, reliable and safe product introduction. Create required manufacturing documentation
  • Develop shop floor work instructions; including method outline sheets (assembly, welding and paint), job hazard analysis and safe work procedure
  • Conduct product structure and product cost evaluations
  • Determine tooling requirements and arrange for tooling development; including holding, lifting, welding and painting fixtures, primary tooling, transport racking, etc. Create tooling drawings when required
  • Complete time study analysis and provide process improvement initiatives
  • Monitor new product launches and track/coordinate product/process improvement actions (Customer Concern Process)
  • Create cost justifications for new facilities and equipment
  • Liaison with other departments (purchasing, quality, maintenance, production, etc) to ensure timely implementation of engineering releases
  • Review/initiate deviation requests
  • Coordinate tool room and outside tooling suppliers’ activities to ensure a timely implementation of product releases. Coordinate tool prove out
  • Support safety and health initiatives through improvements to facilities, processes and tooling
  • Maintain records and prepare reports

Job Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in mechanical engineering
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing support role
  • Previous experience in structural applications and/or mechanical design-based knowledge to provide engineering support to production.
  • Knowledge of creating new structural drawing packages to assist Structural Engineer
  • Good organizational/project management skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Skilled in Microsoft software
  • CAD software experience
  • Self-starter and independent learner
  • Ability to take ownership of projects
