Who we need

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, we need a VP, Engineering to take us further on our success path. If you are ready to take a step up as a champion of change and technology, this is your chance to take the reins to make things happen efficiently, all while staying hands-on. We need a VP, Engineering who enjoys diving into complex architecture and infrastructure problems, whiteboarding solutions around a cross-functional table. We want someone who can lead the work, transforming our platform into a more scalable offering while removing roadblocks and fostering a culture of mentorship and support for their team.

What’s in it for you as the new VP, Engineering

  • Impact and exposure. You want to be the first in this role, defining the technical strategy and building out the technology roadmap for the team. You will take the lead on hiring, retention, and professional development of the Engineering team, providing technical and non-technical mentorship and inspiring by example. You will come up to speed on our product and stack, rolling up your sleeves to contribute to the front or backend code and at the same time make provisions to make plans for optimizing the architecture to scale.
  • Leading-edge technology. You want to be part of a company that is pivoting, a collaborative place where your voice will be heard. You will lead the work scaling our platform; identify efficiencies in the cloud and serverless technologies; guide decision making focused on cost benefits balanced with technical performance and customer satisfaction; and, transitioning all engineering work in-house.
  • Professional satisfaction. You want the authority to do what needs to get done and the autonomy to rise up and solve complex problems in the best way possible. You will collaborate on defining the product vision and customer needs, working across teams and with internal and external stakeholders to keep us iterating and responding to current needs. You want to be the voice of technology, communicating to the team and the entire company.

What you bring

  • The education. A Computer Science, Engineering degree or equivalent is preferred, but we know not everyone gains their programming and design skills this way. 
  • The experience. You have hands-on expertise:
    • Working with Ruby-on-Rails, React Native and AWS.
    • Architecting scalability.
    • Designing and deploying for the cloud.
    • Aligning technology decisions with the product strategy.
    • Implementing appropriate design patterns and best practices.
  • The hands-on leadership. You are a natural leader who can listen, collaborate, influence, and build trust. You have outstanding verbal and written communication skills. You are a champion for your team with the ability to inspire high-quality work and a positive environment. You can provide perspective to the team and keep the team focused on critical deliverables and tasks. You can effectively manage conflict, make barriers disappear, and negotiate personnel issues.
