This position will support the Systems Support Manager in ensuring the obligations contained in the various client’s contracts/agreements are met.  The Support Engineer is a key member of the Support and Automation Teams with involvement in the entire day-to-day support and project lifecycle of a material handling or parcel handling system. They are responsible for the ongoing support, reliability and analysis, along with development and commissioning of operational, LLC, HLC and IT services.  Interacting with fellow Engineers, technicians and service managers, operators and non-technical personal to maintain, maximise and enhance reliability and performance on a day-to-day basis. The role of Support Engineer is to man our 24/7/365 support hotline service and ensure that remote sites and clients service levels and expectations are maintained at all times. As part of this service the Support Engineer will identify additional work and improvements and work with the client and the Company team to implement these. The Support Engineer will be responsible for: • Fielding and attending to support calls • Selling and managing additional support contracts • Identifying, proposing and selling system improvements, updates and upgrades • Providing reporting as required under our support contracts • Maintaining contact with clients and maintain ongoing relationships • Being a point of contact for upcoming work. • Implement procedures and process to ensure the Support Service operates successfully.    • Implement and monitor reporting and quality control measures  • Ensure all necessary paperwork and/or reports are completed accurately and in the correct format as required • Communicate regularly with local representatives and maintenance providers to ensure that support remains available at contracted sites.  • Review all available data on an ongoing basis to identify favourable/unfavourable trends in regard to the various operations • Continually look for ideas to improve the operation and provide advice and support the Regional Managers to help implement ideas and suggestions • All agreed Service Levels are met.  • All tasks assigned are completed to company standards  • No tasks / jobs remain incomplete due lack of parts or resources.   • Inefficiencies/deficiencies are identified and acted upon to ensure that the systems operate to the highest standard technically and in relation to cost • All necessary paperwork and/or reports are completed accurately, in the correct format and on time Daily Operations • Ensure you are conversant with Company and respective sites Health and Safety policies and procedures and ensure compliance with such by all staff • Be conversant with all Company and site contingency plans and be able to implement them on an as required basis • Assist staff and stakeholders in providing advice to ensure any problems are dealt with in the most efficient and effective manner • Make timely decisions to ensure minimum impact on all stakeholders and a quick response to any situation that may arise • Staff and maintenance providers are fully aware of their responsibilities and of your expectations, and stakeholders are kept up to date.  • A healthy and safe working environment where all staff and maintenance providers are fully conversant and compliant with Company and respective site’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.  Personnel Management and Development • Assist the O&M teams / maintenance providers to  represent company in a professional manner at all times • Monitor on-going individual performance of the O&M Sites  • Ensure adequate staffing levels to meet Service Levels required by clients at all times • Well motivated, professional and disciplined staff and contractors Administrative Assist the Regional Managers in the following tasks • Ensure all paperwork relating to support operations is completed in the correct format and filed using appropriate resource tools. • Ensure all costs incurred for work outside the scope of the contracts are properly invoiced and in a timely manner • Ensure all reports as required by the client are completed and distributed in a timely manner  • All support reports completed accurately, on time and in correct format • All registers are up to date for inspection at any time by your Manager or other authority • Inventory of equipment and parts is accurate and up to date at all times Business Development • Become an instrumental contact at all sites where we have existing contracts / agreements in place • Assist Services Manager to develop business opportunities at existing and new locations.   • Assist the tendering department by supplying sufficient information and working with them to ensure anticipated costs are fully understood • Ensure Client has a close relationship with the company.  • Help company broaden its network into new locations • Services grows to continually support the bottom line.  Personal Profile The Support Engineer will have most if not all the following attributes; • Well-spoken with good communication skills (Essential) • Ability to design/develop/fault-find PLC code (Essential) • STL, FBD and/or Ladder programming knowledge (Essential) • Good understanding of networking ideally using Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet or Asi (Essential) • Previous experience of commissioning and testing in an engineering environment (Essential) • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and panels drawings (Essential) • Use of AutoCAD to read device layouts (Desirable) • Understanding of the link between PLC systems and other IT systems such as SCADA (Desirable) • Knowledge of functional safety programming (Desirable) • Background in Material Handling/Conveyor Industry (Desirable) • Relevant qualification in electrical/mechanical engineering (Desirable)
