Job Title: Sous chef

Vacancies: One (1)

Terms of Employment: Full-time, permanent

Languages Required: English and French

Compensation: $50,200 per year, 40 hours per week 4% vacation pay.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 Plan orders of equipment or ingredients according to identified shortages;

 Deal with suppliers and handle paperwork, such as ordering and invoicing;

 Arrange for repairs when necessary;

 Remedy any problems or defects – e.g. minor repairs of kitchen/restaurant equipment defects;

 Be fully in charge of hiring, managing and training kitchen staff such as dishwashers, prep cooks, line cooks, pastry chefs and auxiliary kitchen staff;

 Oversee the work of subordinates including preparation, cost control, food safe, kitchen waste, inventory deliver, cleanness, temperature control;

 Manage kitchen and food sales, by creating interesting daily and monthly specials and their advertisements;

 Design menus that enhance customers’ culinary experience while keeping up high quality;

 Ensure that all food preparation is in accordance with regulatory guidelines;

 Design standardized food presentation guidelines for each dish;

 Look for ways to reduce spoilage of infrequently used items;

 Track expenses and manage a budget;

 Establish the working schedule and organize the work in the kitchen so that staff can work like a “well-oiled machine”;

 Develop a cross-marketing strategy in order to increase profit, such the restaurant visual identity and food reputation;

 During service, cook orders consistently and lead other kitchen staff to make sure orders are going to the table all at the same time on the shortest time possible, and looking and tasting the best.

Job Requirements:

 At least a completion of secondary school is required;

 Ontario Trade Certification as a Cook, or equivalent experience of at least 2 years as a cook/chef is required;

 At least 2 years of experience working in commercial food preparation is required;

Skills:

 Ability to supervise 5-10 people

 Ability to work on a fast paced environment

 Ability to work under pressure

 Ability to work on a physically demanding environment

 Personal skills : Must be organized, reliable, team player, flexible. Must have excellent oral communication, effective interpersonal skills and have initiative.

Other Requirements:

 Demonstrated proficiency with Photoshop and InDesign is preferred;

 Ability to multitask and run a busy line while ensuring the best quality service;

 Ability to lead and inspire a team;

 Strong passion for the art of food design;

 Ability to be creative under pressure;

 Accuracy and speed in handling emergency situations and providing solutions;

 Working knowledge of various computer software programs (MS Office, restaurant management software, POS);
