Senior Network Engineer, Data, VoIP and Video Networks

On behalf of our client, Procom is seeking a Senior Network Engineer, Data, VoIP and Video Networks for a 12 months contract in downtown Vancouver,BC

Reporting to the Manager, Network Infrastructure, the Network Specialist (the “Specialist”) is responsible for maintaining and optimizing the data, VoIP and video networks.  This work includes the advanced configuration of the associated hardware and software to ensure high availability, sufficient capacity, and high performance for the forecasted business demand. The Specialist is accountable for tier 2 operations (incident response and request fulfillment) and responsible for project delivery where advanced skill, experience, and new complex techniques are essential to ensure business requirements are met and the respective services are highly available. Because the work is time and budget-bound, excellent customer service, pragmatism and self-motivation are essential.  Working under the guidance of network architects, the Specialist is expected to participate in new network, voice or video technology design and planning sessions.

Maintaining a highly available network infrastructure helps ensure that everyone goes home safe and healthy every day.

This contract position will primarily be assigned as a Technical lead for the Wireless Infrastructure Upgrades project for the term of this initial contract.

Senior Network Engineer Job Details

The Network Team is a multi-discipline team supporting data, voice, and video networking. The Specialist is expected to have expert-level skills in Cisco IOS and IP networking (including dynamic routing protocols, high availability configurations, firewall rules, wireless security, quality of service, etc) and be capable of supporting both VoIP and Video Conferencing systems; one at a foundational level and the other at an intermediate level.  The voice and video environment extends beyond Cisco into other Unified Communications platforms (i.e. Microsoft and Polycom), so the Specialist is required to have extensive experience with cross-platform integration and working collaboratively with auxiliary support teams. As such, the ability to maintain excellent relationships with colleagues and our vendors is critical. On a monthly basis, the Specialist is expected to coordinate the collection, compilation and review of environmental metrics, present the material to management, and lead the team through the implementation of the subsequent action items.  This, in addition to proactively researching and recommending improvements based on latest industry techniques, are aimed at improving the business experience.

Services supported by the Network Services team include, but are not limited to, the deployment, configuration, operation, and maintenance of the communications fabric connecting: Mail and Collaboration, Financial (Agresso, Hyperion, SAP, JDE), Materials Mgmt and Logistics (Dynamics AX, JDE, Wenco), Exploration (GIS Data, Pangeos, Gemcom, FlexiCadasre), environmental (SiteLine), and File Share services (CIFS).

  • Provide reactive tier 2 support for very complex or high impact  data, voice and video network incidents
  • Fulfill advanced data, voice or video network requests within the promised timeframes
  • Mentor junior and intermediate team members on complex issue resolution or advanced request fulfillment
  • Design and build solutions based on documented standards to ensure consistent and supportable outcomes
  • Proactively examine environment and make improvements based on research and user feedback
  • Provide operational excellence; manage network ticket queues to ensure customer issues and requests are being addressed in a timely, non-impactful manner
  • Clearly communicate and defend required changes to the Change Advisory Board (CAB) and IS teams
  • Assess and advocate for standardization where feasible
  • Maintain and configure network devices and components, including:
    • Cisco routers, switches and voice gateways
    • QoS configuration and management
    • Dynamic routing protocols
    • Next generation firewall configuration, access control lists and DMZ enhancements
    • Next generation load balancing configuration (HSRP, F5, etc)
    • Cisco Nexus and core switching; support data center-class devices and components
    • IP addressing and virtual network segregation
    • Network management tools (i.e. Cisco Prime, SolarWinds, Tufin, etc.)
    • Wireless network technologies (WAP, WLC, WCS) and integration with 3rd party PKI
    • WAN Optimization devices (Riverbed, etc.)
    • Network access, authorization and accounting (Cisco ACS/Prime)
  • Maintain VoIP systems, including:
    • Cisco Unified Communications Manager
    • Call accounting applications and management
    • Integration with Singlewire Informacast broadcast messaging
  • Maintain video conferencing systems, including:
    • Microsoft Skype for Business video integration
    • Polycom, Cisco and Microsoft (S4B) video end points
    • Cisco contact center (UCCX)
  • Maintain voice and video integration, including:
    • Microsoft Exchange Unified Messaging (Foundational knowledge and practical understanding)
    • Microsoft Skype for Business (Foundational knowledge and practical understanding)
    • Voice integration with Skype for Business – dial plan, methodology, etc.
    • Video integration with Skype for Business – meeting room integration, desktop integration, audio integration, codec translation, content sharing, meeting scheduling, etc.

Senior Network Engineer Mandatory Skills

  • College diploma / University degree in Computing Sciences or equivalent experience
  • CCNP or equivalent vendor certification
  • Cisco Call Manager / CUCM certifications
  • Microsoft certifications in Skype for Business or Exchange
  • Health, Safety and Reclamation Code (HSRC) certified (recommended)
  • Polycom Video Certifications (recommended)
  • 7+ years supporting IS Infrastructure in a large complex corporate environment
  • Strong team player; builds positive relationships with colleagues and works well in virtual teams
  • Leadership skills
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft products, including Exchange and Skype for Business
  • Expert-level understanding of IP networking
  • Strong understanding of VoIP and video (teleconferencing)
  • Intermediate specialty in either VoIP or video (teleconferencing)
  • Meticulous with a propensity for pragmatism; strives to get the job done right
  • Advanced technical, analytic and troubleshooting abilities; able to handle high severity incidents under time constraints
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate effectively with technical teams of varying disciplines and business users up-to a director level
  • Self-motivated; strives to get the job done without supervision or continuous reminders
  • Spanish language skills considered an asset
