Tasks and responsibilities

Business Development

  • Develop and maintain contact with all senior persons who specify, use and install Company products, including but not limited to electrical contractors, consulting engineers, electrical engineers, various Government-level purchasing departments and industrial specifiers.  S/he will provide them with all services they require (such as sample, literature, specifier’s catalogue and copies of product specifications) and conduct informative meetings for all types of specifiers, as required.
  • Ensure that there is proper follow-up on project quotations issued and ascertain that, when Company products were quoted, the company obtained the order and the product was utilized.  When opportunity arises, put forth necessary efforts to secure the orders.  S/he will also report the needs of the contractor/specifier to Company management by suggesting new products, promotional literature, policy changes, etc.
  • Maintain complete records of contractor contacts and advise Company co-workers of upcoming contractor opportunities so a joint effort from the various product BU’s can be implemented.
  • Be responsible for product training on contractor or specifier sites and, when required, at the distributor Level.  Upon her/his supervisor’s request, s/he will co-ordinate training efforts with the local Territory Manager, as per the latter’s sales plan.
  • Maintain competitive product and pricing intelligence information and share same with her/his supervisor. The incumbent will also communicate pricing information to her/his area’s Territory Manager.
  • Actively participate, upon her/his supervisor’s request, in the marketing support programs (trade shows, dinner meetings, joint calls) that are planned in her/his area by the Territory Manager.
  • Work with distribution “projects” personnel to quote and close contractor opportunities, under the guidance of the area’s Territory Manager.

Miscellaneous

  • Perform special studies and carry out special assignments, as required by his/her supervisor.





Requirements

Education

The incumbent should have a College Degree and on-the-job training experience.  A CET diploma would be an asset.

Experience

The incumbent should have a minimum of five (5) years of work-related experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The Business Development Specialist – Contractor Relations should have excellent sales abilities and presentation skills, as well as knowledge of the electrical industry at the electrical contractor and distributor.  S/he should also have knowledge in business and management principles. Project management and Auto Cad knowledge is an asset.

S/he should have abilities in areas in the art of interpersonal relations.  S/he should have good judgment and able to establish priorities.
