The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director, Digital Products, we have an opening for a Senior Manager with a focus on increasing the capability of the product management group by  coaching, hiring and developing a team of diverse and experienced product leads. In addition, you will support the continued development of the product management and discovery practices in order to ensure the products built are continually out-delivering on audience expectations. 

The team is a mix of product managers and product owners working on audience-facing digital experiences. Some guiding on-site Agile development teams, others work closely with development partners to deliver the features to Canadians. All work to strengthen cross-organization digital activities. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring audience and product insights are effectively shared and understood across the entire team so to facilitate a connection with the overall digital strategy.

Who you are

You are currently a Senior Product Manager or People Manager working in media or an enterprise technology organization. You have experience developing products guided by a research-based discovery process. You believe the best product experiences happen through close collaboration between the audience, the designers, and the development teams. You have proven experience coaching people to explore their capabilities, and in helping them transform their weaknesses into distinctive strengths. How you will make a difference. You will:

  • Help develop a culture of collaboration, learning and improvement across the CBC’s Digital Products department.
  • Support a team of Product Managers providing mentorship, coaching direction, formal performance evaluation and access to professional development, all resulting in happy and satisfied team members.
  • Grow and promote the team through presentations and participation in job fairs, networking events and digital networking. Participate fully in the end-to-end recruitment and onboarding of new talent.
  • Advocate for the work of the team and the individuals, removing roadblocks and gaining recognition for achievements. Build strong relationships with and represent the team to our primary stakeholders.
  • Contribute to and execute on the department strategy developed in collaboration with the other senior managers and directors.
  • Ensure the continuous evolution of the department through continuous improvement of workflow and adoption of new measurement and product development practices.

What you bring:

  • The education. You have a postgraduate degree in business or a related post-secondary degree supported by practical experience in product management. Bilingualism in French and English and general broadcast knowledge are nice to have skills.

  • The relationship building. You can motivate, inspire and grow a team and its members. You can nurture strong two-way relationships across product teams, peers and executives.
  • You have a deep understanding of how to inspire and guide the work of digital product teams. You are familiar with the tools, processes and language used in product management and Lean development. 
  • The corporate savvy. You can navigate and push the boundaries of a national organization. You understand how to work within the processes and use the significant budget as well as existing resources, tools and personnel to your advantage. You can adapt your approach to work through the layers of corporate culture effectively.
  • The knowledge. You are a strategic thinker with the patience to consider all options before jumping into a decision. You have deep familiarity with a range of product management tools and analytics services to develop complex product ecosystem reports that will inform the strategic direction of the Digital Products portfolio. You are able to develop, share, and refine product management practices across a diverse portfolio. You are motivated by building robust, reliable processes and solutions that support and empower your team.
