Programmer/Analyst - Full-Time
Job Description

Purpose of the Job

The Online Banking Development team is tasked with developing, integrating and maintaining the software components and applications of Meridian’s technology and infrastructure. The team function involves working closely with the Digital Banking team, our partners in Business Analysis/Quality Assurance, Infrastructure and various business units to develop quality solutions.

The Senior Programmer/Analyst serves as a lead resource on corporate projects by completing the design and programming for all application software initiatives. This includes the maintenance of Meridian’s Ovation banking system as well as the evaluation and implementation of vendor software packages, creation of custom in-house applications, enhancements to existing applications, application maintenance, and upgrades.

Holding advanced level technical acumen, the Senior Programmer/Analyst must make recommendations on key decision points within the project as they relate to Meridian Credit Union’s software development, implementation and integration direction, and ensure that project deliverables are met on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

Design and Development

  • Perform a variety of highly complex technical tasks, including design, architecture, programming, maintenance, unit testing, and documentation of software solutions, web based technology and shared multidimensional data solutions
  • Contribute to the ongoing development, documentation and maintenance of programming and system integration standards
  • Design, implement, and maintain the components required for highly complex application features
  • Integrate third party software into existing applications and infrastructure
  • Adhere to any and all regulatory and audit requirements in any solution or work provided
  • Provide input on project deliverables, including time and cost estimates
  • Develop and implement web applications for existing website, content management system and other web-related projects.

Research and Technical Assessment / Support

  • Provide consultation/best advice to achieve optimal technological solutions and tools that support and enable our internal business partners
  • Consult with other team members in a technical capacity on projects and initiatives
  • Identify potential risks, and effectively evaluate alternatives by conducting risk/benefit analysis
  • Investigate and make recommendations on new technologies that increase efficiencies
  • Resolve highly complex technical issues, conduct advanced research and identify product and service innovations
  • Support the Business Analysis, Service Desk and Quality Assurance groups by providing technical expertise when needed


  • Collaborate with multiple groups including Business Analysts, Quality Assurance, Project Management Office, Network Technology and Operations to develop and integrate software solutions
  • Establish strong relationships with other Meridian Corporate Office and Delivery staff to ensure that Technology and Solutions align to the business needs.
  • Work closely with the  Senior Manager, Programming and Development and team leads, to create and align the vision for new software directions
  • Articulate complex solutions to a variety of audiences

Organizational Development

  • Contribute to creating an environment that promotes knowledge sharing and cross training
  • Provide guidance to others in the form of design and programming advice
  • On an adhoc basis, lead and guide the work of others

Knowledge, Experience and Skills


  • A strong knowledge of software development processes, analysis, design, tools and techniques
  • Expert knowledge of relational databases and client-server concepts
  • A strong understanding of financial tools and the banking sector is a definite asset
  • Degree or diploma in computer science or related field with emphasis on web technologies
  • Development and implementation of sites using Visual Studio .NET Framework
  • A strong knowledge of software development processes, analysis, design, tools and techniques
  • Knowledge of current internet standards, including HTML5, CSS, cross browser rendering and operating system compatibility
  • Understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues
  • Experience with development of Web Services using MS.Net


  • Superior analytic and problem solving skills with great attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and plan workload, multi-task, meet deadlines and adjust plans to changing needs
  • Ability to adapt to changing business needs with innovative solutions
  • Capable of working independently
  • Ability to make decisions and recommendations to multi-discipline groups
  • Solid understanding and ability to implement solutions towards the different web technologies.


  • Minimum of 5 years of application development experience on medium to enterprise scape projects in corporate environment

Experience considered an asset, but not required:

  • Understanding and experience in mobile and responsive development
  • Experience with MAC and PC platforms
  • Experience with ReactNative Mobile development will be plus.
  • A strong understanding of financial tools and the banking sector is a definite asset
  • Knowledge of SoA and n-Tier architecture.
