Description

Portfolio Management (55%)

  • Maintain the overall quality of the Commercial Portfolio within established parameters by monitoring portfolio trends
  • All files and the SAP system of record are expected to be accurate and complete. The annual review/renewal document should provide sound risk assessments and be well documented following Home’s policies, guidelines and procedures and meeting post-funding ERM quality assurance requirements
  • Adjudicate renewals within delegated authority and ensure the annual review/renewal document provides a sound risk assessment that meets post-funding ERM quality assurance requirements
  • Identify potential high-risk accounts and ensure that all such credits are effectively managed or transitioned to the high-risk credit / collections group
  • Maintain a record of all commercial mortgages highlighting  annual review and renewal dates actual vs. completed
  • Participate in the remediation of internal audit and other audit findings as required
  • Initiate, foster and maintain ongoing dialogue with the origination and renewal groups to ensure productive working relationships are maintained to ensure a collective client centric approach is taken  
  • Proactively manage a portfolio of real estate through sound analysis, as well as an understanding of emerging trends
  • Complete the approval and underwriting of annual review and renewal files assessed within the target amount of time
  • Oversee, coordinate and participate in the preparation of renewals and annual reviews as required for the commercial mortgage portfolio
  • Assist in the overall management of the commercial mortgage portfolio, including the management of any special request and any problem loans
  • Assist in maintaining and developing appropriate credit policies and procedures for the Commercial Mortgage portfolio
  • Manage and maintain good relations and strong communication with Mortgage Brokers  and other external Commercial Mortgage “partners”
  • Maintain a high level of industry knowledge, competition and market trends

Administration/Leadership (15%)

  • Provide hands-on leadership, as subject matter expert, to guide and coach others on commercial business requirements
  • Identify and provide specific additional coaching and performance management to individuals as necessary
  • Ensure individualized performance objectives are in place for all direct reports; monitor and evaluate individual’s performance and provide timely feedback as required
  • Foster a team environment focused on achieving all departmental objectives and goals in support of the business
  • Plan, schedule and establish team member workload, individual training and on-boarding processes
  • Maintain clean OSFI and Internal Audit reports
  • Escalate issues/obstacles/trends to the SVP Underwriting as appropriate with recommendations/solutions
  • Monitor productivity and workflow to ensure on-going efficiency of the team

Risk and Compliance (15%)

  • Ensure all transactions adhere to and are appropriately risk rated with a sponsor, property and aggregate rating
  • Maintain files in compliance with all aspects of Company’s underwriting policies and guidelines per delegated authority matrices and applicable compliance obligations including Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering/ Anti-Terrorist Financing and internal Anti-Fraud Policy requirements
  • Ensure Unusual Transaction Reports are filed as applicable to fulfil individual employee obligations to detect and deter financial crimes activity

Reporting (10%)

  • Assist in preparation of annual, quarterly and monthly reports for senior management
  • Coordinate information and reporting with other business groups within the company
  • Assist senior management in analysis and reporting to meet internal and regulatory requirements
  • Set, report/measure and review SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, reasonable, time sensitive) Performance Management Program objectives for Portfolio Management team
  • Assist in developing departmental reports related to:
    • Execution of Risk Control Self Assessments (RCSA)
    • Set, report/measure and review, Key Risk Indicators / Key Productivity Indicators (KRI/KPI)
    • CEO CFO Certification
    • Legislative Compliance Management (LCM)
    • Business Continuity Planning (BCP)

Projects (5%)

  • Assume a leadership position and work closely with all stakeholders re. Commercial Mortgage Transformation Project
  • Manage special projects or other new initiatives as needed


Requirements

Formal Education:
• University degree in business or related discipline
 • Additional relevant accreditation(s), certification(s) are considered strong assets

Related Experience:
• 5+ years in commercial mortgage lending, financing of multi-residential & non-residential properties; construction lending
• Underwriting and finance background
• In depth understanding of commercial mortgage industry
