The Payroll & Benefits Administrator's main purpose is to process payroll, administration of benefit programs, manage the onboarding & off-boarding processes, and act as a resource person for employees.

The opportunity:

Payroll & Benefits Administration

  • Responsible for the preparation and processing of payroll. Review and ensure accuracy of approved timesheets; track and deduct all garnishments and other special payroll deductions
  • On and off-board employees and user accesses, including processing leaves in the payroll system.
  • Enrol employees to the group insurance & retirement plans upon their eligibility date.
  • Balance group insurance premiums with payroll and invoices.
  • Coordinate insurance open enrolment info sessions, process new premiums, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll/tax and documentation regulations.
  • Ensure all policies related to time off, eligibility requirements, etc. are followed.
  • Act as a resource person for employee questions related to pay, benefits, admin.
  • Participate in year-end processes, internal & external audits and any other projects assigned by management.
  • Audit payroll system to ensure data controls are functioning correctly.
  • Complete paperwork and set up accounts with government bodies
  • Creates and delivers routine and ad-hoc Payroll data metrics for the Accounting department
  • Conduct Australia payroll.
  • Set up new employees in Payroll and Time Management System

Onboarding/Off-boarding Tasks

  • Create all new hire documentation, ensure proper completion and saved in employee file.
  • Prepare end of employment documentation
  • Conduct benefit information sessions

Administrative Projects

  • Create internal employment offers.
  • Manage the Payroll email inbox.
  • Manage employee files and ensure all necessary documents are electronically filed.
  • Complete employment verifications.

Any other duties that may be called upon

TRAVEL: Minimal travel required

Required Skills:
  • Certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) is an asset
  • Knowledge of labour/tax laws is required
  • Excellent communication skills required; fluent English and French (oral & written)
  • High level of attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
  • Demonstrates high level of confidentiality and exercises extreme discretion
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint) required
  • Experience with Payworks and/or Evolution payroll software is an asset
Required Experience:
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience in payroll
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Accounting or Finance
