Reporting to the VP Finance and Controller, the ideal candidate will have strong cost accounting knowledge in a production environment such as manufacturing or agriculture, the ability to identify accounting and internal control process issues and exercise good judgment in a variety of situations; and the aptitude to join a professional, result-driven team. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversight of inventory costing and related activities at our operation in East GTA, analyzing production variances and providing insight into inventory cost fluctuations;
  • Maintain accurate cost of goods sold accounting.
  • Manage the process of assessing inventory for excess and obsolescence reserves.
  • Identify and drive process improvement initiatives. Assist in internal control documentation and testing around inventory and disbursement cycles.
  • Assist in preparation of various management reports including inventory reconciliations, sales and cost of sales journal entries and reconciliations, cost of goods sold analysis, inventory on hand reports etc.
  • Work with other departments to ensure all sales and cost of sales transactions are processed in accordance with IFRS.
  • Coordinate with Operation Inventory Manager for weekly inventory count.
  • Support monthly GL close processes and year end audit as required.
  • Collecting data, planning and projecting costs of business activities such as raw material purchases, inventory and labour;
  • Develop, update and maintain standard costs and BOMs;
  • Monitor, analyze and report on cost trends of inventory and raw materials to interpret overall cost of goods sold and margin variations, including analyzing actual cultivation and manufacturing costs.
  • Prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual product costs and explain internal variances.
  • Assist with the annual budget process, including the development of production cost center expenses, labour budgets, activity rates for labour and overhead to be used in standard costing.
  • Excise tax reconciliation and filing of monthly excise tax returns.
  • Assist in ERP implementation.
  • Education

  • Bachelor’s degree combined with a minimum of 8 years relevant work experience.
  • Completion of a recognized Accounting designation (CPA, CMA / CPA, CGA)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical accounting skills (IFRS).
  • The ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly collaborative team player with the ability to enforce policies and procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced PC skills in Microsoft Office; including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of BlueLink and Sage systems are considered an asset
