On behalf of our client in the Public Sector, PROCOM is looking for a Lead, Database & Middleware Support Consultant.

Lead, Database & Middleware Support Consultant – Job Description

Work Management

  • Leads, develops, implements and monitors plans to support databases and middleware systems.  Proactively identify problems and opportunities for improvement of service and systems, including architecture, service level improvement and cost efficiency.
  • Manages and coaches a team of technical professionals to deliver timely service to internal and external clients (safety, performance development, attendance).
  • Conducts formal performance reviews and provides feedback to team members on performance.
  • Interact with other IT professionals to provide support for Corporate Capital Projects.
  • Manage operational costs, budgets, negotiate and manage contracts/invoices.

Asset Management

  • Maintain database and middleware inventory and licensing
  • Manages database and middleware assets, including, procurement, implementation, monitoring, maintenance and operations, capacity
  • Service Management
  • Implement and maintain middleware and database security.
  • Perform database and middleware tuning and performance monitoring and resource balancing
  • Manage response to incidents and issue resolution, life cycle management/refresh and continuous improvement to improve reliability.

Disaster Recovery

  • Establish and maintain database and middleware High Availability and Disaster Recovery procedures.
  • Ensure cross training of resources to ensure appropriate backup resources are available for Disaster Recovery.
  • Ensure access is appropriate for backup resources to perform Disaster Recovery procedures.

Continuous Improvements

  • Setup and maintain database and middleware related documentation and operating procedure.
  • Provides inputs to the development of Database and middleware standards and enforce approved standards
  • Maintain database and middleware patch management and version control
  • Manage the creation and updating of database and middleware standard operating procedures.
  • Provides input to the development of relevant architecture standards.
  • Owns and manages internal process to support database and middleware services

Lead, Database & Middleware Support Consultant – Mandatory Skills

  • 12+ experience in middleware and database support , asset lifecycle management and infrastructure planning.
  • 5+ years’ progressive supervisory/management experience.
  • University degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related.
  • Knowledge of database and middleware systems such as Oracle 11g/12c and Microsoft SQL Server 2012/14/16 DBMS, Oracle Data Guard, RMAN and Oracle
  • Enterprise Manager, IBM WebSphere Application Server, IBM WebSphere Message Queue/ Integration Bus, IBM Netezza, ETL tools such as SAP Data Services and MOVEit Central.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and operational priorities simultaneously, including directing work of contract staff.
  • Strong vendor management skills.
  • Financial and business acumen.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
