Job Introduction
Working as part of a team, the Laser Application Specialist will be the subject matter expert for your industrial laser systems. You will be responsible for choosing the correct laser system components, integrating them so they perform safely and reliably, tuning the process for optimum quality at the required production rate, and providing the customer with the documentation and training to enable them to keep the system running effectively. If you have less experience, you will start in a Junior position, and grow into the role. Recent projects for the laser team have included: laser brazing and aluminum welding systems for outer body panels, laser cutting, remote welding and gear welding systems. Other laser processes are being considered.

Major Responsibilities
*Supervise the building, commissioning and run-off of industrial laser processing systems for automotive parts manufacturing. *Work with the Project Manager and design & commissioning team to ensure laser systems meets all requirements for safety, throughput and product quality. *Take project from concept and design, through manufacturing, assembly, and commissioning at Massiv, to customer buy-off and re-assemble and commission at the customer site. *Support the system through start of production including training of customer personnel. *Assemble and prepare all required laser system documentation for your projects. *Ensuring all operator safety devices function properly on completion of installation or repair. *Travel outside of Massiv: 10 to 25%

Knowledge and Education
*University degree or College diploma in Mechanical, Electrical or Photonics Engineering, Engineering Physics, Physics, or equivalent combination of formal education and practical experience. *Knowledge and experience with thermal welding and/or cutting processes. *Knowledge and experience with industrial robots (Fanuc and Kuka), PLC (Allen-Bradley) controlled motion systems and/or CNC controls. *Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical design of automated industrial manufacturing equipment. *Laser Safety Officer training, or be qualified and prepared to take the LIA LSO with Hazard Analysis course. See www.LIA.org for details. *Practical experience with lasers, optics, optical systems and fiber-optics is highly desirable. *Experience with multi-kilowatt lasers and optics is desired, along with knowledge of inspection and cleaning methods for high-power optics. *Excellent verbal and written communication skills. *Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, AutoCAD and Catia * A valid Driver's License and Passport
