Credential Financial Strategies Inc. (“CFS”), in partnership with Meridian Credit Union, presently has an opening for a Life Insurance Specialist to join our dynamic organization.  CFS is a wealth management program offering financial planning, insurance and investments to members of credit unions and their communities.

This position is responsible for working with credit union Members to uncover their unique risk protection needs and to recommend and implement comprehensive financial strategies that would help to mitigate risks to member financial goals.  To do so the successful candidate must have a proven history of delivering on sales results through the formation and growth of trust-based relationships with members, advisors, sales leaders and centres of influence.

With a passion for financial planning and business development, this knowledgeable practioner is motivated to work closely in partnership with our CFS staff, wealth teams and Meridian Credit Union branches primarily focused in the Greater Niagara Region.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Maintain an active pipeline of new business opportunities by proactively consulting with referral sources and members on personal and business risk management needs,
  • Establish strong relationships, primarily with Credit Union Wealth Advisors, to identify prospective referral opportunities from new and existing members.The successful candidate will create awareness of their value proposition, skills and abilities and assist in highlighting target prospects and educate advisors on how their services can support a stronger member relationship through holistic planning.
  • Identify member needs and goals, analyze data on income, assets, liabilities and wealth transfer objectives and present appropriate solutions/strategies to meet the assessed needs through the use of financial planning tools.
  • Confidently communicate recommendations leveraging a wide-array of insurance products (i.e. term, permanent, critical illness, disability, long-term care, segregated funds, annuities, GIA) and strategies for both the personal (i.e. estate preservation, income protection, tax-advantaged investing, insured annuity, charitable giving, wealth transfer) and business (i.e. key person, insured buy/sell, corporate estate bond, estate equalization and/or freeze, group benefits and/or pension, business loan and overhead protection) marketplaces.
  • Build professional networks within the local community to refer to and source members from.Specifically identify legal, trust, estate or other specialists as needs are identified to support the advice services offered by Meridian’s Practice Lead, Tax, Estate and Financial Planning
  • Liaise with our Institutional Relationship Manager and Business Banking team(s) to develop referral opportunities and provide risk management solutions to Small, Medium Enterprise (SME) members including individual and group solutions.
  • Provide ongoing relationship management support to existing policyholders and investors often leading activities related to insurance renewals and investment reviews.
  • Pro-actively manage and provide input to member financial plans where applicable.
  • Reports on business activities, pipeline and ongoing case opportunities through regular touchpoints with the Credit Union Wealth Manager.
  • Liaise with insurance carrier wholesalers and industry resources to stay informed on product revisions, government/regulatory changes and trends in estate planning and insurance solutions.
  • Partner with Meridian advisors and external resources on the fulfillment of outbound educational activities (ex. seminars, workshops, etc.) to drive awareness and understanding of the CFS and how its services and solutions can support member planning objectives.

Requirements:

Experience and/or Educational Requirements:

  • 5 to 10 years sales experience in the Canadian Life Insurance industry
  • Possess valid life insurance license in Ontario
  • University degree, CFP, CLU, CHS, ChFC or similar designations are preferred
  • Strong familiarity with insurance carriers and their product offerings
  • Strong knowledge of financial planning and estate planning concepts and personal and corporate insurance strategies

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proven experience in meeting sales objectives, networking and relationship building skills
  • Familiarity with retail and business banking environments considered an asset
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills
  • Superior sales abilities (active listening, identifying business opportunities, influencing & negotiating, asking for the business)
  • High level of professionalism and attention to a positive member experience
  • Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experience in preparing and presenting plans using financial planning software (NaviPlan, Life Design Analysis, etc)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Entrepreneurial nature with a pro-active attitude and desire to contribute to business growth
