Field Quality & Excellence Primary Function:


The Health, Safety and Risk Manager is responsible for leading, managing and developing health and safety policies, procedures and programs. He/She creates and promotes initiatives to ensure the organization’s compliance with health and safety legislation and works to eliminate workplace hazards and risks to reduce injuries through industry best practices. The Health and Safety Manager works in collaboration with the Management Team to ensure employees are educated in practices to proactively protect themselves against potential dangers as well as respond appropriately to emergency situations.




  • Program Management and Development
  • Lead Health and Safety through driving a culture of safety in the field and ensuring Health and Safety policies and procedures are actively adhered to and applied to the business
  • Monitor Health and Safety legislation and make recommendations to ensure organizational compliance
  • Develop, communicate and train employees on Health and Safety policies, procedures and programs
  • Report on both leading metrics (i.e. activity based) and trailing metrics (i.e. frequency/severity rates and costs) and recommend improvements to the Senior Management Team
  • Conduct Branch safety audits
  • Monitor Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings, collect meeting minutes and identify Best Demonstrated Practices (BDPs) to communicate to branches
  • Support and coordinate implementation of Technical Compliance Action Items
  • Support ISO requirements with respect to Health and Safety procedures
  • Work to ensure legislative compliance, better trained mechanics, a safer place to work, the reduction of workplace injuries and WSIB/WCB/CSST costs
  • Participate in and represent company at elevator industry health and safety associations (i.e. Safety Groups, Elevator/Escalator Trade Labour-Management Health and Safety Committee Training and Communication
  • Identify and communicate required Health and Safety Training activities and assist branches to plan and schedule as required
  • Manage and coordinate Safety Conference calls with Field Supervisors and Branch Managers
  • Develop and oversee the Health and Safety component of the New Hire Orientation Package
  • Communicate (BDPs) to the field e.g. COR program in Alberta
  • Develop and coordinate the distribution of monthly safety communications (“toolbox” talks) for Supervisors to deliver to field personnel Page 2 of 2 Workers’ Compensation
  • Investigate, review and analyze occupational incidents and worker’s compensation claims to identify root cause(s) and recommend preventative actions
  • Liaise with Human Resources and Healthcare Management provider to develop and maintain early and safe return to work processes for workers compensation claims Risk Management (Product Liability)
  • Oversee the reporting and provide the necessary documentation related to product liability incidents for third party investigation
  • Liaise with Broker on insurance renewal (auto and general liability) and/or ongoing matters Knowledge
  • Post secondary education in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of six (6) years in a Health and Safety role, with at least three (3) years at a Managerial level, preferably from a sales and service industry and optimally from the construction industry
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) and/or Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC) certifications considered an asset Critical Skills
  • Analytical: Ability to think conceptually to have impact, ability to understand complex tasks/situations/problems, analyze them using a systematic approach and identify trends or relationships
  • Communication: Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Customer Service: possess internal customer-oriented attitude
  • Presentation: Ability to present materials clearly and engage audience
