Job Description

Southland is seeking dedicated Special Needs (Complex Learning Needs [CLN]) School Bus Drivers to join our team! We offer specialized position-specific training for this role. Drivers are responsible for safely transporting students with varying complex needs on a daily basis and must be committed to safety and customer service. Bus Attendants are also present on the bus for some routes.

In addition to your duties as a School Bus Driver, the principal duties and responsibilities of the Floater Driver are:

  • Complete mandatory wheelchair training
  • Be willing and able to drive any route and operate any equipment for Complex Learning Needs (CLN) or School Bus
  • Perform non-driving duties, as assigned, during scheduled hours
  • Drive safely and responsibly; be prepared for all road and weather conditions
  • Verify with Dispatch what schools are on PRO
  • Keep an up-to-date route binder
  • Maintain radio contact and use proper radio protocol
  • Be prepared and ready to go at the designated banking location assigned by dispatch; communicate with dispatch at the scheduled time
  • Manage passenger behavior by quickly and effectively solving problems

Floater Drivers work during the school year and are given time off during the summer or during school breaks.


  • Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) driver's license (FREE Class 2 training provided)
  • 4 or less demerits, with a relatively clean abstract
  • Clear criminal record
  • 10 years commercial driver's abstract
