Purpose of the Job:

The Finance Specialist provides proactive, actionable analytical support and business insight to the Finance team and business partners. With a focus on the Financial Margin, the analyst will summarize monthly results, explain variances and identify trends.  With an understanding of the business, the Finance Specialist leverages tools and technology to extract and convey financial information and insights in a way that enables key stakeholders to understand the financial impacts, risks and benefits of potential financial decisions. 

Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide management reporting and decision support to all levels of the organization, providing insight to enable the user to take action, to identify issues, opportunities and emerging trends for the business .Examples such as Financial Margin rate volume analysis, ad-hoc analysis to support critical plan/forecast decisions, Financial Impact assessments, Pricing recommendations.

Insights & Decision Support

  • Provide insights and support for the development of various Finance initiatives, such as implementation/development/enhancement of financial margin modelling, rolling forecasting, implementation of driver based planning, redesign & continuous improvement of Executive level management reporting, support the strategic planning process.
  • Provide support to the process improvement of our plan & forecasting process, for Financial Margin. Use innovative skills to promote new ideas and foster creative thinking in an environment that supports continuous improvement and efficiencies in processes and service offerings

Systems Support and Data analytics

  • Work with various databases and analytical tools to create a seamless month end reconciliation for all FM components. Utilize data to provide insights and trends to determine future forecasting impacts. Applies creative problem solving skills to design, streamline and build frameworks and financial models to analyze the economic impact of different key drivers to the margin.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Strong business acumen, excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with people at various levels of seniority within the business
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with and summarize large quantities of data and being able to access data from multiple sources
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage technology to streamline processes, tools and analysis
  • Experience working in a fast paced & collaborative environment
  • Excel, SQL
  • 2 - 5 years progressive Financial analyst experience within a multi-dimensional financial organization
  • Accounting designation an asset
