Environment Health & Safety Lead

Working under the authority of the National Operations Support Manager, the Environment Health & Safety Lead is responsible for applying the professional practices required under the Occupational Health and Safety Act to the work environment to ensure a safe and healthy workplace. The Environment Health and Safety Lead must provide enforcement of the law where compliance has not been met, consistently convey mature professional judgment, and competent in safety management, systems, technical and managerial knowledge required. 

The Environment Health & Safety Lead must ensure compliance to the NA EH&S program, ensuring adoption and compliance to policies.  They will be responsible for submission of monthly reports for the Canadian business, hosting monthly EH&S performance calls with Canada and ELT,  and participation with the NA program representing Canada. 

Travel across Canada is required to conduct branch audits and field audits and to work with Front line operations leaders to ensure compliance to policy, assist with remediation plans and partner and assist with investigating incidents. 

Duties and responsibilities
  • Investigate all accidents, incidents and near misses alongside the Site Supervisor. If the Supervisor is unavailable you will be required to conduct investigation to the best of your ability. Complete all reports efficiently and in a timely manner. Ensure a supervisor has approved of corrective actions and signed off. Ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner. 
  • Conduct regular walk through inspections and audits of construction area; this includes weekly jobsite inspections, monthly equipment checks (fire exit, spill kits, tools), and regular spot checks. Spot Checks should include random checks on pre trips, worker knowledge on ERP, policies and procedures, Equipment and pick up cleanliness, and PPE. 
  • Conduct audits at hazardous waste sites or industrial sites, and participate in hazardous waste site investigations
  • Coordinate 'right-to-know' programs regarding hazardous chemicals and other substances
  • Prepare policy documents, guidelines, pamphlets and brochures relating to environmental health matters.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial health regulations and municipal bylaws and enforce laws where necessary.
  • Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices, in order to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations
  • Create and deliver programs in areas of infectious disease control, health hazard investigation and injury prevention.
  • Maintain and update emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Ensure all ADT employees are trained on all required Health & Safety Training
  • Attend the Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings
  • Ergonomic assessment experience required

Job Requirements


  • University of community college with 2-5 experience; or equivalent through work experience, special courses and self-development. 
  • Specific Occupational Health & Safety Training would be considered an asset 

  • ADT or associated service company experience an asset.
  • Supervisory/Management and Instructional background, customer service experience, work scheduling. 
  • Proven conflict resolution skills and people development.
  • Certified Health and Safety representative an asset.

  • Skill in performing safety inspections ensuring compliance with OSHA and NFPA safety standards.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols.
  • Skill in performing safety inspections and ensuring compliance with OSHA safety standards.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety procedures, standards, and protocols.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations, protocols, and/or procedures.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Skill in developing safety procedures and protocols
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

  • Doing paperwork and analyzing data for reporting
  • Preparing inspection and assessment results
  • Communicating on the telephone and in meetings with clients, colleagues, government officials

In the field:
  • Conducting inspections or assessments

  • Implementing control measures
