Design Group Staffing is currently seeking a Combustion Systems Specialist for our client based in Calgary.

 

Reporting to the Manager, Automation Support Team, the successful candidate will participate in the entire life cycle of a combustion Burner Management System (BMS) project, from initial system audit, new system design (hardware, software, control narrative, cause & effect, etc.), implementation, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site commissioning and start-up. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop and Review the following Project Documentation:
    • P&ID’s
    • Instrument Index
    • Equipment sizing & calculations
    • Piping and ducting loss calculations
    • Piping layout drawings
    • Mechanical layout drawings
    • Refractory design
    • Data sheets
    • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) & Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) validation studies
    • QA documentation
    • Construction Work Package (CWP) documentation
    • Burner Management Systems (BMS) narratives
    • Shutdown Keys and Cause & Effect Diagrams
  • Troubleshooting of Burner Management Systems (BMS)
  • Work with Customers’ process and electrical engineers to define functional requirements
  • Lead Hardware and Software internal verification testing and Customer verification testing
  • Lead Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
  • Train customers/service companies on burner systems
  • Provide phone support to customers/service companies
  • Interface with internal and external customers
  • Provide technical support during system shutdown and start-up activities
  • Provide technical applications/solutions to Customers and maintain awareness of their technical requirements
  • Provide input into improvement of current engineering processes and practices
  • Provide technical support for Sales Teams
  • Participate in our 7/24 on call rotation
  • Travel to our customer’s offices and their sites is expected
 

Qualifications:

 

  • B.Sc. in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (emphasis on Process Control an asset) or Instrumentation Engineering Technologist Diploma
  • Knowledge of B149.3 Code, an asset
  • Good troubleshooting skills, with the ability to think on one’s feet
  • Aptitude for prioritizing multiple tasks and managing multiple assignments
  • Exceptional communication skills and customer service experience and practices
  • Strong team player and customer oriented
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Safety conscious and able to complete applicable safety training (e.g. H2S Alive, CSTS, First Aid, etc.)
  • Willingness to travel; valid Class 5 driver’s license required
