The Business Area Manager (BAM) reports directly to the Regional Business Leader (RBL) and has the overall responsibility for the coordination of nursing services for his/her assigned team of regional Field Nurses. In this leadership position, the BAM provides support, training, and supervision to ensure the highest level of quality patient care, that program requirements are met, and that the College of Nurses’ standards are maintained. The BAM is also responsible for implementing processes to optimize efficiencies and staffing, control expenses, and to ensure collaboration between the nursing team and other divisions of AmerisourceBergen.


 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Percentage of time is estimated and the BAM will collaborate with the RBL as it relates to projects including time management.


60% (estimated) day to day business operations and actions to drive KPI targets for geo-territory:

  • Manages a remote team of Field Nurses within assigned geographical territory
  • Achieves Key Performance Indicators for clinic and nursing operations, including budget and expense controls
  • Monitors demand for clinic and nursing services to ensure adequate resource availability to meet customer and patient care services required within assigned region; Maintains a high level of excellence through audits of clinics and nursing, including protocols and on-site visits
  • Manages clinic growth opportunities including site identification and establishing new clinic sites
  • Achieves Key Performance Indicators for clinics and nursing operation services
  • Reviews and audits all protocols related to Field Nurses, clinics and staff training
  • Implements all program and departmental policies and protocols at the regional level
  • Establishes and maintains excellent customer relationships within assigned territory
  • Provide ongoing management, annual performance reviews, objective-setting and training planning for all direct reports; including liaising with Human Resources as necessary
  • Analyzes, plans and implements process improvements to achieve utilization and efficiency targets
  • Ensures program requirements are met and College of Nurses’ standards of practice are maintained; Travels as required throughout assigned territory and quarterly (or as required) to head office for management meetings
  • Coordinates all requested clinic visits/tours
  • Participates regularly in telephone consultations and/or web based meetings/training sessions to share information, and uphold professional practice standards
  • Consults with physicians, pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients regarding education and implementation of product specific programs
  • From time to time the BAM maybe called upon to provide specialized infusion/injection therapies and nursing services to oncology, auto-immune, rare disease and other therapeutic areas to patients in outpatient clinics or homecare settings

20% (estimated) KOL/onsite MD Plan of Action:

  • Plan of Action (PoA): Execution of key deliverables to increase and maximize nursing, clinic and scheduling opportunities to report out on progress, opportunities, challenges, etc.
  • Actively establishes and strengthens relationships with KOLs and specialist treatment centers (e.g. Oncology, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology, etc.) within assigned region through participation as a member of associated project teams as well as key pharmaceutical and physician/clinic customers

15% (estimated) Collaboration with other key internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to:

  • Liaising with other Managers, Field Case Managers, Senior Managers and Directors to create and implement a team approach to service delivery and planning to ensure optimal customer service and seamless program execution in the field, as well as key pharmaceutical and physician/clinic customers

5% (estimated) Administrative, training, corporate activities:

  • Provides training for new Field Nurses on departmental policies, procedures, and administrative tasks
  • Provides front line support to the Field Nurses in clarifying nursing issues, payroll concerns, vacation authorization and scheduling issues
  • Coordinates nurse scheduling with Scheduling Coordinator to ensure maximal efficiency and utilization of resources
  • Serves as the primary reviewer of nurse timesheets/expenses to ensure proper completion and accuracy
  • Performs related duties and tasks as required


  • BScN/equivalent or working towards the degree; Registration with the College of Nurses in your home province
  • CVAA certification an asset
  • BCLS required, ACLS required
  • Minimum 5 - 7 years nursing experience
  • Minimum 2 - 5 years of management experience or related experience in managing and guiding people
  • Experience in nurse training & education; nursing management is required
  • Experience working with the biotechnical/pharmaceutical industry
  • Availability and willingness to travel as per business need
  • Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Excellent communication and administrative skills


MINIMUM SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
 
  • Excellent clinical skills as a nurse including IV initiation, physical assessment, autonomy
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Effective interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Effective organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; ability to resolve issues effectively and efficiently
  • Proficient presentation skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other Office Programs
  • Hold and maintain a valid, non-expired, unrestricted driver’s license
