HKA Design & Craft Services, LLC currently has positions available for the positions of 1st Class Ship Fitters and 1st Class Flux Core Welders to perform services for our client, Vancouver Shipyard Co. Ltd.

 

CRAFT

1st Class Flux-Core Welder (FCAW)

 

MAIN FUNCTIONS: (Job Description)

Welds together metal components of products as specified by layout, blueprints, diagram, work order, welding procedures, or oral instructions, using electric arc-welding equipment.  Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.  May clean or degrease weld joint or workpiece, using wire brush, portable grinder, or chemical bath.  May chip off excess weld, slag and spatter, by arc gouging.  May be designated according to type of equipment used as Flux-Cored Arc; Welder.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

$40.00 per hour plus overtime

Overtime paid at double time rate after 40 hours of work

$120.00 per day per diem, if applicable

Travel Pay provided, if applicable

Vacation Pay (4% of Gross Wages)

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Duration, 1 – 3 years

Job Type, Full time/40+ hours per week

 

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Years of experience, 3 – 5 years new build Shipyard experience as a 1st Class Flux-Core Welder

Certification Required – Red Seal or equivalent Certification

Language, must possess ability to read, write and understand English Language

Ability to work as part of a team in an environment committed to safety & quality

Compliance with all safety policies and procedures

No education required.

 

SUCESSFUL CANDIDATES MUST PASS THE FOLLOWING TEST

FCAW, 4 Test

.045 Wire

Coupon Set Up;

3/8 Plate

Two 3/8th plates 3” wide x 6” long, one side of fit up with 30% bevel matched to square edge of second plate.

1-G, 3-G, 4-G with 13mm gap on root with steel backing.

2-G with 8mm gap on root with steel backing.

Backing strap to be removed. (Removal) method to be determined, mechanically by shop or air arc gouge by welder?)

Bend Test

Additional FCAW, 1 Test

Additional test will be administered on one plate set up as above with a fixed height restriction of 36”. This test will be ran in the 3-G and 4-G position on same plate with Vertical stop and start on square edge and Overhead stop and start on bevel edge.

Wire wheel cleaning only allowed.

Air arc gouging by welder to remove backing strap will be required on this plate.

Bend Test
