Junior/ Intermediate - Estimator

Our client is a highly respected, well-established Canadian company, that has been offering general contracting services for over a century. With the steady growth of their organisation, they are looking for an Estimator to join their ranks. This would be a great opportunity for either a Junior Estimator that wants to make their mark on the industry, or an Intermediate Estimator that enjoys working independently on large estimates.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed estimates and take the lead throughout the tender process; from receiving plans to tender submission.
  • Provide detailed take-offs, project budgets and cost plans.
  • Maintaining a good relationship with suppliers to negotiate prices and rates.
  • Progress claim assistance and external variations, provide estimates for change orders with sub-contractors when required.
  • Preparation of final estimate summaries
  • Review, negotiation and finalization of subcontracts
  •   Oversees the final tender document submission on behalf the client organizations Requirements

  • Post-secondary education or relevant degree
  • General construction industry knowledge with a solid understanding of its methodologies.
  • 3+ years’ experience in an estimating role
  • Previous experience with medium to large projects (10M+) would be an asset
  • Competent use of estimating, on-screen measurement and scheduling software (Primavera, Sage etc.)
  • Strong technical skills, ability to read and interpret plans
  • Experience with lump sum bidding
  • Bid preparation knowledge, including quantity take-offs, procurement, and pricing and bid closing procedures
  • Previous knowledge of market labour and equipment rates is an asset
