Construction Safety Officer – Vancouver

Are you a seasoned Construction Safety Officer looking for your next opportunity? We are working with a boutique real estate developer who has been operating in the Vancouver market for over 30 years. They work on a unique portfolio of large scale residential, commercial, and retail projects throughout Metro Vancouver.

This role of Construction Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring site compliance with OH&S legislation, as well as promoting the Occupational Health and Safety program. We are looking for someone who takes pride in ensuring a culture of safety among all project sites. Responsibilities

  • Provide advice on safety issues in order to ensure compliance with all organizational, client and regulatory requirements.
  • Training and mentoring of all crews, including sub-contractors, in understanding and implementation of Workplace Health and Safety systems.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, liaising with the project team to ensure best safe practices are followed by all employees.
  • Ensure that that a site emergency plan is developed, implemented, maintained and reviewed regularly.
  • Coordinate and promote the identification, assessment and control of risks on the worksite.
  • Ensure all workplace injuries, illnesses and incidents are reported, investigated, discussed and remedial action is taken, as required.
  • Ability to conduct value adding audits, safety inspections and safety interactions.
  • To provide continual input and support for the safe delivery of work by personnel involved in operational activities.
  • Take part in all JHSC meetings and successfully deliver safety orientations and tool-box talks to site staff.
Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience in a Construction Environment
  • Minimum of Occupational First Aid Level 2 required
  • Solid knowledge of WorkSafeBC and its associations
  • CSO Designation required
  • Fall protection certification
  • Confined space/monitoring certification
  • Experience with the COR™ process is ideal but not essential
  • Must be registered with ASTTBC
  • Exceptional knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety legislation
  • Demonstrated experience writing and reporting documentation with accuracy
  • Ability to communicate effectively to drive positive HSE outcome
