Retail Construction Project Manager

On behalf of our Victoria, BC client, Procom is currently seeking a Retail Construction Project Manager.

Retail Construction Project Manager Job Duties:

  • provide subject matter expertise with respect to the development of new retail Stores, relocations, expansions, and/or renovations to existing sites;
  • provide subject matter expertise for the site planning, design layout and interior décor for new stores and the renovation of existing stores;
  • prepare detailed site-specific proposals and plans for new and/or renovation projects, including cost estimates, for review and approval by senior management;
  • review construction drawings to ensure that all company standards and specification requirements are met;
  • oversee the display millwork details and requirements for new Stores and major remodels;
  • liaise with municipal and provincial government authorities concerning zoning, traffic, development and building permits, and other bylaws and building regulations;
  • undertake regular on-site inspections to monitor construction projects and identify any areas of concern;
  • ensure contractors adhere to policies, appropriate municipal, provincial and federal building codes, WCB regulations, etc.;
  • attend, as required, meetings with municipal governments, community groups, etc. to address concerns in respect to site selections, relocations, and renovations;
  • coordinate interior designers, architects and internal specialists to finalize design/retail elements of facilities;
  • monitor final inspection of a completed project (including construction, heating, ventilating, air conditioning and electrical systems, etc.) to ensure site is occupancy ready;
  • work collaboratively within the organization, the project team, and other work streams to resolve scheduling conflicts; and
  • provide regular status reporting and the resolution of issues and/ or appropriate escalation.

Retail Construction Project Manager Mandatory Skills:

  • a degree or diploma in architecture, engineering, or construction or equivalent discipline or equivalent experience of 10 years’ field work in delivering construction projects;
  • minimum of 5 years’ recent experience leading multiple commercial real estate projects exceeding $500K in value;
  • knowledge of local by-laws requirements and building code requirements;
  • experience with retail store(s) including but not limited to; set up, tenant improvement, renovations, facilities or construction;
  • experience managing relationships and communications with multiple senior level stakeholders with potentially competing interests and priorities;
  • experience with directing the work for other project managers, professional employees and/or consultants;
  • proficient in reading architectural, mechanical, electrical and structural drawings;
  • experience with contract management, budget tracking and cost control, schedule management, and quality control;
  • superior written and oral communication skills and attention to detail when communicating;
  • Microsoft Project or other project management software, Excel, Word at a proficient level; and
  • ability to drive results from a team of consultants and contractors aligned with budget and schedule constraints.

Retail Construction Project Manager Desired Skills:

  • Experience leading and coordinating projects in a large distributed retail operations environment.
