Design Group Staffing is currently engaged in a permanent search for an Intermediate Structural Engineer to join our client, an Intermediate Mine Producer in Vancouver, BC.

Accountabilities: With the mine sites located in Northern BC, this position is located at the Vancouver office and reports directly to the Engineering Manager or designate.  The Intermediate Structural Engineer’s primary responsibility is to perform structural design and analysis for a variety of capital and maintenance projects for our operating mine, including existing buildings and structures at site.   This also includes detailed design and project coordination as a project engineer.  Travel and working at the mine site/s may be required on a quarterly basis.

The Intermediate - Structural Engineer’s responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Perform structural support steel analysis/design and foundations design
  • Stamp design and drawings and modifications required on the existing structures at site
  • Analyze and make independent recommendations to solve problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines
  • Office review of structural engineering shop drawings and calculations
  • Field review of structural related construction (e.g. reinforcing steel)
  • Assist other engineers in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data an adherence to prescribed testing analysis, design or computation methods
  • Support execution of the Quality Plan to ensure that work product meets defined requirement standards and codes

  • Bachelor Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering Must have a Professional Engineering designation in Canada (P.Eng.) or US (P.E.)
  • Minimum 6+ years’ experience working as a structural design engineer, and managing structural building and equipment support structure design and assessment projects. Along with previous Consulting and onsite field experience.
  • Proficient using AutoCAD
  • Experience with structural design software (STAAD; RAM Structural System)
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Self-motivated and ability to multi-task working on multiple projects while maintaining a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, vendors and contractors
  • Be able to work under tight schedule and meet deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of Federal and Provincial mining & safety legislation and regulations
