Our client, a global research, manufacturing, and services supply organization is offering a rewarding career opportunity to a senior manager, who brings leadership, technical know-how, and a proven ability to maintain a safe, positive, environment, working with skilled professionals.

Presently operating 2 newly constructed biomass power generating plants. Above average Income negotiable, commensurate with experience, plus performance bonus and other attractive perks.

Under the broad direction of the West Region Senior Vice President, responsibilities include the management of the Merritt and Fort St James plants operation and maintenance and fuel Supply contracts, and contract renewals. Each plant will be supplied with 200,000 oven dry tons of biomass per year. A significant portion of the Fort St James plant biomass sourcing strategy will be based on the successful management of a 370,000 m3/a AAC 20 years bioenergy forest license granted by the BC Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (MFLNRO).

Responsibilities shall include, but not limited to, several of the following: accounting, budgeting, financial controls, assisting in the assessment of technology and training needs, preparing technical reports and proposal documents, providing technical sales support, ensuring customer and regulatory satisfaction, and evaluating and establishing efficient and effective work processes for locations within the assigned region.

Business Management / Proposal Management

•  Leads staff in the development of annual strategic plan for the region including the creation of both expense and capital budgets.

•  Leads staff in reviews of potential new facilities for operations efficiency and costing.

•  Collaborates with Business Development personnel in preparing proposals.

Account Management / Contract Management

•  Ensures superior client relations: responds to customer needs and solicits client feedback.

•  Manages Plant Managers to effectively execute existing contracts to achieve maximum profitability consistent with good business judgment and practice.

•  Maintains effective relationships with key political and community decision makers including First Nations in the region.

•  Actively participates in public forums to support goals and to enhance community education.

•  Participates in negotiations of regional, multi-site and/or complex agreements

•  Monitors region financial performance including compliance to cost center budget, personnel utilization, pricing, customer invoicing and collections

•  Consolidates relationship with fiber suppliers, buyers and contractors (sawmills, pulp mills, pellet mills and loggers)

•  Ensures compliance with legal requirements and company policies

•  Identifies and justifies capital expenditures

•  Promotes and models safety culture

•  Ensures plant compliance and adherence to OSHA, State and Corporate Safety and Environmental Programs

•  Leadership (builds relationships, facilitates team success, provides direction and delegates responsibly)

•  Guides the implementation of Human Resources policies, plans and programs for the region.

•  Identifies in conjunction with Training Department staff and HR, training needs and coordinates execution of training programs.

•  Establishes standards of performance with key staff and monitors wage and benefit levels on a regional industry basis.



•  Must have college or university degree in a related field; master’s degree in related technical or business field desirable.

•  Ideal Candidate will hold a 1st class “Power Engineering” certification.

•  Possess a thorough knowledge of BIOMASS and residual fiber processes and market dynamics.
