Safety Officer

Location: Edmonton, AB

SOUTHLAND Transportation is currently seeking a part-time Safety Officer for its Edmonton location. The successful candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced environment and possess superior leadership skills in the safety of our professional drivers. A high attention to detail, exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills, and a focus on the continuous improvement of the safety of our drivers and other staff would lead to success in this role. This is a part-time position with the possibility to turn into a full-time role. Hours will vary based on operational needs.

The candidate will be able to anticipate a role that focuses on prevention, but also includes response to emergency situations.

Knowledge & Skills Required

  • Class 2 Driver's license preferred (license upgrade will be offered)
  • Clean driver's abstract
  • Previous experience in a school bus operation is considered an asset
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Public speaking and presentation skills
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate preferred
  • Post-secondary education and/or training in leadership or management considered an asset
  • Knowledge of safety legislation relating to busing
  • Knowledge of Transportation Audits and Compliance

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Incident investigations, file management and reporting
  • WCB administration
  • Assist with the development of the company's safety culture and program
  • Monitor operations to ensure staff comply with safety rules, policies, procedures and government regulations
  • Plan and present on various topics at staff safety meetings
  • Familiarize prospective employees with SOUTHLAND policies
  • On-scene collision reviews
  • CRC (Collision Review Committee) road reviews
  • Maintain precise and up-to-date paperwork and time-keeping
  • Preparation for yearly Safety Audits

Working Conditions

The office is located at 13503 - 149 Street. Holidays are taken around the needs of SOUTHLAND and the boards it serves and therefore are not taken during blackout periods.
