If you want to take responsibility for an accounting and clerical department, Robert Half Finance is looking for a Controller to join a successful company. The Controller will be a full-time employment opportunity and will be located in the Ottawa, Ontario region. This role's duties will require planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. Effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services will be essential for this role, and a creative type who can lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas and challenge the status quo. Key responsibilities:
*Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required
*Analyze, apply and improve policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
*Flexible in completing tasks beyond formal job responsibilities
*Oversee the activities of the finance department, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
*Complete month-end and year-end close of the income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts and handle G/L analysis
*Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time
*Manage the production of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
*Give financial reports to the executive committee and partners each month
*Meet client expectations by reviewing deliverables of self and team to make sure they meet client satisfaction
*Collaborate with the executive team and partners to make efficient and effective firm-wide operation possible
*Produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and manage daily cash

Job Requirements

*Skilled in the construction and delivery of effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
*Strong communication skills and able to receive criticism well
*Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and constantly changing company environment
*5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
*Command of financial statement preparation
*Solid understanding of financial reporting
*Proficiency in project accounting
*Skilled in manufacturing
*Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required
*Critical thinking skills and the ability to retain complex work directions
*Prior experience in a public accounting environment is highly valued
*Attention to detail and proven ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement
*Self-driven motivator who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve creative challenges
*CPA/MBA preferred
*Vow to meet business deadlines
*BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business-related fields
