Robert Half is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for our client located in Downtown Toronto. The CFO will have overall responsibility for the financial operations for the organization, including the accounting team, budget, audit, and tax filings. The ideal candidate should possess experience in a non-profit environment - generally acceptable accounting principles, grant management, various funding streams, provincial/federal rules and regulations, and revenue Management and Budget accounting principles for non-profit bodies. The individual should have strong interpersonal skills and be able to support program staff with strategic budget planning.


  • Responsible for fiscal integrity, policies and procedures, budget systems, internal controls, etc.
  • Oversee preparation of all monthly and quarterly reports and billings to various grantor agencies, as required and ensure that reports are completed timely
  • Monitor cash flow daily and make appropriate decisions to maximize cash position
  • Oversee the preparation of, review, and analysis of annual and monthly budgets for agency grants
  • Maintain accounting computer management information systems and software
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with chief accounting/financial personnel in various government agencies that provide financial support to the organization
  • Manage the annual audit process and ensure the audit is completed in a timely manner
  • Identifying and addressing financial risks and opportunities
  • Monitoring financial performance by measuring and analyzing results
  • Reporting financial status by developing and maintaining forecasts
  • Managing multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines
  • A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent
  • Professional Accounting Designation
  • Candidates must possess an advanced working knowledge of non-profit accounting
  • Candidates must possess excellent client communication skills and the ability to maintain a positive client relationship
  • 10+ years’ Financial experience
  • 3+ years’ experience in a CFO/VP Finance role
