Our client is seeking an Occupational Health Specialist for a contract-to-hire opportunity. This position will provide and coordinate assessment, referral, and follow-up care for employees with occupational or non-occupational injuries and illness in addition to maintaining a health surveillance program while developing, implementing, and evaluating relevant policies and procedures.
Some of the duties of this role will include:
- Performing return-to-work assessments post injury/illness to ensure fitness to work
- Organizing and facilitating modified work discussions
- Managing WSIB claims and initiating modified work programs
- Coordinating and documenting cases for work and non-work-related illnesses and injuries
- Compiling and reporting data related to disability management
- Meeting with Human Resources to discuss accommodations issues
- Ensuring appropriate job placement for new hires based on physical demands analysis, collaborating with internal and external consultants as appropriate
- Maintaining immunization and surveillance program records
- Maintaining knowledge of applicable health and safety guidelines, legislation, and current guidelines and trends, and review/develop OHS policies, procedures, and guidelines accordingly
- Providing guidance on safe work procedures and health and safety concerns/issues in the workplace
- Providing employee education of potential health risks and methods/measures to prevent injury and illness
- Other related duties as assigned by supervisor
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in Occupational Health Services in acute care setting or similar environment
- Working knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation; general knowledge of corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to health and safety.
- Excellent time management and prioritization abilities
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing; bilingualism is an asset
- Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with internal and external customers
- Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office suite as well as relevant internal systems
- Ability to pass a Vulnerable Sector Check
