Overview:

Location - Calgary

The Finance Team lead has primary responsibility for the financial reporting processes including variance analysis and hands on responsibility for the planning and forecasting processes.

Accountabilities:

  • The Finance Team Lead manages the Senior Finance Analyst and has accountability for delivering on the areas below
  • Manage the financial accounting and reporting processes including preparation of period end financial statements and required variance analysis and support for all internal and external stakeholders for the Canadian Regulated business
  • Lead all planning and forecasting processes, including maintenance and improvement of excel based planning models while utilizing SAP reporting tools
  • Ensure that all financial regulated rate case requirements are responded to in a timely manner Interpret and review financial and operational results with the senior management team, including marketplace trends, issues and opportunities
  • Effectively manage, supervise and coach the Senior Finance Analyst

  • Critical Financial Thinking - Ability to interrogate, analyse and derive insight from data
  • Systems Expertise - in key finance systems, working with ERP systems, preferably with SAP
  • Supervisory skills: In addition to the senior analyst competencies; the team lead must demonstrate supervisory and management abilities. This includes motivating and developing the senior analyst as well as reviewing the work of others and offering constructive feedback

Need to have:

  • Strong technical accounting and financial planning skills gained through public practice or similar role in a large organization
  • Broad cross section of experience that includes an understanding of Canadian GAAP and IFRS, financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, accounting policies and procedures, and tax and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent MS Excel skills

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or equivalent
  • Must hold a professional accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CA, CGA) or MBA
