The Continuous Improvement Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of the Continuous Improvement program (CI). The CI Engineer will provide initiatives to increase productivity and decrease manufacturing costs through process improvement, production equipment modification, material re-engineering, manufacturing flow optimization, waste reduction and other innovative solutions while maintaining an accident-free workplace. The incumbent is also responsible to control and supervise the Storeroom inventory and receive/issue incoming/outgoing material and services along with supervising the storeroom employees.


- Oversee and manage assigned projects.
- Meet project timelines and stay within budget
- Immediately communicate any budget, timeline or any other project variances
- Develop, implement and communicate strategies, goals, and objectives to improve plant and company performance to ensure long term adoption.
- Drive initiatives across the plant to reduce cost and improve product consistency. This coordination will include, but not be limited to, storeroom, warehouse operations and manufacturing.
- Recommend methods for improving worker efficiency and reducing waste of materials by restructuring job duties, reorganizing workflow, relocating workstations and equipment, and purchase of equipment.
- Develop clean action plans.
- Manage projects to help achieve our corporate strategies
- Identify and execute cost reduction programs/projects for the Operations division.
- Proactively identifies opportunities for improvement, champions ideas, and promotes cross-functional connections to implement solutions.
- Ability to develop and apply best practices - sell the organization on the change associated with the proposals.

- Ensure CI project goals are met and sustained through the development of effective control plans.
- Ensure Continuous Improvement System processes and procedures are followed and adhered to.
- Analyze process data and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and suggest ideas to improve production.
- Help cultivate a culture supportive of teamwork and positive employee relations.
- Able to provide mentoring and coaching to Continuous Improvement Leaders/Professionals
- Able to coach and mentor Lean Six Sigma projects throughout the operations front line staff
- Recommend investment alternatives to minimize costs, avoid future costs, and/or increase productivity.
- Assist in the development of detailed short and long-range plans in support of corporate strategies.
- Help plan and direct the layout of equipment, workflow, and assembly methods.
- Interface with houly employees
- Supervise and manage storeroom activities and employees.
- All other tasks assigned by his/her supervisor.
- Responsible for product quality, safety, and legality.
- Supervise other crews as needed.


- Bachelor’s Degree preferabley in Mining, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
- Eligibility to hold P. Eng. title with APENS.
- Continuous Improvement and/or Lean-Six Sigma experience with the ability to train and coach others, Lean/6 Sigma certification preferred.
- Possess basic statistical knowledge and the ability to learn and apply statistics to process and product improvement projects.
- Preferred skills include AutoCAD, PLC Programming, CAT4 etc.
- Proficient in MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook) or equivalent required.
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, within tight deadlines and to re-organize workload to meet shifting business needs.
- Must Possess strong time management, planning, organizational, decision-making and analytical skills.
- Must possess strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills, this role inter-acts with all levels of organization.
- Ability to become highly skilled in the areas of leadership, analysis, and PC applications.
- Flexibility to work off shifts and/or weekends as required.
- Travel occasionally for special projects, training, conferences, etc. Home Base Pugwash, NS.
- Bilingual in French an asset.
- Three (3) – five (5) years Engineering experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.
