The full-time Controller position is situated in the Ottawa, Ontario area. This position is for candidates who can plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff. Candidates who know how to effectively manage themselves and others within strict time constraints when providing client services will do well in this role along with creative types who can lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo. How you will make an impact

- Assess, execute and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
- Handle monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis
- Work closely with the executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation
- Reviews deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations
- Manage daily cash and prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals
- Flexible in completing tasks beyond formal job responsibilities
- Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time
- Manage the production of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
- Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required
- Direct finance department activities, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
- Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports
- CPA preferred
- Property accounting experience highly preferred
- Adeptness in financial reporting
- Budget forecasting experience preferred
- Bank reconciliations experience desired
- Proficiency in cash flow management
- Demonstrated knowledge of general ledger
- Foundational knowledge in cash forecasting
- General familiarity with journal entries
- Background working with year-end closings
- Financial statement preparation experience highly desired
- Practical knowledge of month-end closings
- Excellent technology, analytics and management experience required
- Accounting experience in publicly-traded company a plus
- Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and constantly changing company environment
- Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines
- Detailed and have the ability to work independently
- Self-driven motivator who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve creative challenges
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business-related fields
- Outstanding analytical, quantitative and social skills
- Able to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
