Tooling Designer (Automotive)

Your Key Responsibilities
- Design and redesign of tools, quality gauge items, machine components and assemblies.
- Develop formulae for the design of tooling and to automate the design process.
- Apply project management methods to complete several tasks on-time.
- Provide cost evaluation in tooling procurement.
- Train new and established co-workers in drawing standards, the operation of a CAD station, general departmental procedures and other areas. Share knowledge and assist in the development of coworkers skills in performing their assigned duties.
- Ensure all project data is recorded in a tooling database.
- Develop and write tool set-up sheets.
- Act as a technical resource for all personnel involved in the manufacturing process.
- Contribute to a “team-work” environment to facilitate the continuous improvement of quality, job satisfaction, efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Participate in approved training exercises to improve job-related skills.
- Develop and implement new tooling technology, designs and systems and facilitate their ap-plication.
- Introduce changes and improvements to production processes via new or revised tools which benefit the manufacturing process.
Your Qualifications
- Technical diploma in an engineering discipline or equivalent
- Minimum 4 years’ experience with tooling and fixturing application in precision manufacturing environment.
- Experience in tool design and use precision measurement equipment as asset.
- Must demonstrate the ability to work independently and use creative problem solving techniques to resolve issues.
- Must demonstrate the ability to lead by example and possess acceptable leadership and good communication skills
- The incumbent should possess strong planning, organizing and presentation skills
- Must possess good working knowledge of Windows based computer programs, such as Microsoft Office.
- Proficient in the use of CAD systems (AutoCAD, Inventor, Mechanical Desktop, Unigraphics and/or Pro-Engineer).
