GBS Payroll Administrator Canada

Brampton, Ontario, Canada 

Position Overview:
The GBS Payroll Administrator Canada is primarily responsible for payroll processing activities for Amcor Packaging Canada, Inc. (APCI). This role is also responsible for proper administration of all Federal and Provincial government tax, regulatory and compliance related actions and related filings for APCI. Key activities include processing customer payrolls, standardizing and continuously improving payroll procedures, ensuring the integrity of payroll data reported in financial and benefits systems and working on special projects with both Canadian and American HR/Payroll teams.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
• Perform payroll processing activities for APCI Corporate/Plant locations and Canada Retirees to ensure accurate and timely delivery of bi-weekly and monthly regular and off-cycle payrolls. Includes upload/entry of time/payroll data, auditing, reporting and timely distribution of payments.
• Create and maintain payroll processing procedures and standards for APCI in partnership with U.S. Payroll Administrators that are ICE compliant and harmonized across Canada and the U.S.
• Liaise with Payroll provider tax services to ensure timely reconciliation and reporting of payroll tax remittances and filings to Federal and Provincial taxing authorities.
• Partner with Canada Pension & Benefits Manager to ensure all proper employee group insurance and pension related deductions are accurately reported. At year end, record group insurance taxable benefits and pension adjustments.
• Responsible for the management and communication of the Amcor Rewards and Recognition Program and Scholarship programs.
• Calculate personal use income for company cars and ensure proper reporting in employee taxable income.
• Year-end tax reconciliation and Tax Forms (T4, R1) management and administration.
• Ensure all Worker’s Compensation remittances are made (by Province) and support related audits.
• Prepare, validate and post payroll journal entries into financial systems for APCI and perform other designated payroll related financial activities.
• Perform payroll related general ledger account and bank reconciliations for APCI.
• Partner with Finance to ensure accurate and timely resolution of payroll related general ledger issues.
• Provide supporting documentation for internal and external Auditors and serve as the primary payroll contact.
• Support the Pension and Benefits Manager with data entry for benefit / pension enrollments, taxable benefit calculations and other related employee relations activities.
• Work on special HR/Payroll projects as required Amcor Business Group Management (US and Canada), such as system implementations and plant closures/acquisitions.
• Liaise with HR/Payroll system provider for service support, including garnishments and banking services.
• Provide assistance to Amcor Canadian co-workers regarding payroll inquiries.
• Maintain confidentiality and security of payroll information.
• Drive continuous improvement and innovation.

• At least five (5) years of Canadian payroll processing experience.
• Multi-provincial & national tax experience.
• Strong technical knowledge of payroll calculations and laws/regulations governing Payroll.
• Strong analytic skills, high level of initiative and willingness to learn.
• Strong problem solving and judgement skills.
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure.
• Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet all deadlines.
• Team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills and customer focus.
• Experience with current Amcor payroll and time systems preferred.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Human Resources or related field preferred.
• Canada Certified Payroll Professional Certification preferred.
