Scope of the Position
The Process Engineering Technician is primarily responsible for the day-to-day troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair of controls and instrumentation devices on automated industrial machinery. Secondary responsibilities include installation and improvement of these devices on automated industrial machinery. The successful Process Engineering Technician quickly and accurately identifies the root cause of equipment downtime and supports the Process Engineering department with the generation and implementation of robust solutions.
Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day manufacturing production processes through diagnosis and repair of unique and chronic equipment problems
- Continuous improvement of existing systems
- Install, diagnose and fix programmable logic controllers and other devices that operate automated equipment.
- PLC and HMI programming and troubleshooting
- Robotic programming and troubleshooting
- Responsible to improve equipment reliability and uptime related to automation and controls
- Other duties as assigned
- The incumbent is responsible for the awareness, understanding, specific responsibilities and management of the Environmental Management System (EMS) as stated in EMS policy CEVPL.00005.
- The incumbent is responsible for the awareness, understanding, specific responsibilities and management of the Quality Management System (QMS) as stated in CQAM.00001 – Corporate Quality Manual.
Qualifications
- Graduate of Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology/Technician (Robot and Automation Program preferred) or equivalent education/experience
- Additional training courses in PLC programming and controls an asset
- 2 – 3 years of Automotive Manufacturing experience in a technical support role required
- Strong technical knowledge in the programming, installation, configuration and troubleshooting of automated industrial equipment (assembly, welders, machining centres, etc.)
- Knowledge of PLCs (Allen Bradley, Omron), Robotics (ABB, Fanuc), HMI programming, Vision Systems (Cognex, Keyence)
- In-depth working knowledge of load cells, potentiometers, torque transducers and related amplifiers and signal conditioners
- Superior analytical capabilities
- Problem-solving and decision-making
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to manage multiple tasks
