Who we need

Reporting to the Director of Student and Registrarial Services (DSRS), we are looking for a Manager of Student Life. You will create, deliver, and manage all student life initiatives, with a primary focus on comprehensive orientation, and provide guidance and leadership to all co- and extra-curricular activities and events. You will foster student involvement, promote inclusivity, engage student leadership, and have direct oversight of all student activities, student government, clubs, sports, and organizations. You will thrive in an ambiguous environment.

The position is based at our 2000 Steeles Avenue West Campus in Concord and includes some remote work. This role requires some flexible hours in order to support on campus events.

What you will do:

  • Be strategic. You will collaborate with senior leadership, Academic Affairs, and Student Services. to define, develop, and implement new programs and activities that support or enhance the student academic experience. You will design and develop frameworks that implement structure and enable success for student clubs, sports, and organizations. You will manage the yearly budget for the Student Life Office. You will draft proposals and plans to grow student life at Yorkville - building a culture of student excellence and engagement.
  • Create and roll out. You will own the new student orientation and onboarding program, engaging departments and programs across the campuses to ensure well-rounded and exciting initial online and onsite experiences. You will create and develop a student engagement plan, analyzing past experiences, identifying gaps, and introducing new approaches based on your research and insights. You will set goals and measure how impactful initiatives have been.
  • Student advisory. You will develop and facilitate student leadership workshops and other critical information and non-academic learning sessions in formal and informal settings. You will meet with students, listen to their concerns, and address those concerns. Clubs and sports formation, development and sustainability are key components. Sustainability and diversity are equally important.
  • Manage events. You will track event participation and feedback to determine success, areas for improvement, and use these insights to determine how to approach the design and execution of future events.

What you bring:

  • The education and experience. You have a Bachelor’s degree and experience coordinating and facilitating orientation or onboarding programs and developing and delivering student workshops. You are passionate about delivering an exceptional postsecondary student experience, setting students, clubs, teams, organizations, and programs up for high engagement and long-term success. You are highly collaborative and have exceptional professional communication skills. You know how to adapt programs, presentations, and documentation to attract and retain the attention of your audience. You have an acute awareness and deep appreciation for diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • The event management skills. You can plan events from concept to completion, managing budgets, variables and resources. You are focused on finding solutions that are action-oriented, and you can leverage your network to exceed expectations and meet deadlines. You can prioritize a high volume of competing deliverables, maintain an open dialogue, and close the loop to ensure student satisfaction. You thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, balancing autonomy and independence with executive collaboration and cross-functional teamwork.
  • The leadership skills. You can influence without authority - and with it - build trusting relationships with peers and students. You have demonstrable abilities in strategic planning and aligning student life (orientation, clubs, sports teams, etc.) goals, requirements, and expectations. You have exceptional communication skills and a proven ability to perform effectively in a team-based collegial culture. You can manage, mentor, and grow a team of specialists. You have experience guiding and evaluating staff performance.
  • The flexibility. You are open to working extended hours during peak periods for student registration, reporting, and event management. You have a valid driver’s license and can travel to different locations.
